Got this gem on Ebay for $39 (worth FAR more) It's an early PH-2 from Japan (The good ones)

The PH-3 is digital, and simply doesn't sound the same

The outside

The inside

Excellent shape. Excellent sound.

Gonna be even more excellent once I upgrade it.

The PH-3 really isn't upgradable... shame cause it doesn't sound as good as the PH-2 stock.

Here is the insides of a PH-3. Compare it with the one above which was made in the 80s.

I had a PH-2 years ago, and wanted one again. Almost bought a PH-3 thinking it was what I had.

Huh. I have one of those. I think I paid €20 for it, or traded it for a CH-3 chorus or something.

Never really liked it that much - I much prefer my SmallStones.

Don't like the small stones. Noisy in the front, noisy in the loop.

Plus the control over them is limited. Just one rate knob...

I love the sound of the PH-2, and after I finish modding it, it's gonna sound even better.

Yes, they're slighly noisy.

But they sound OH! so nice...

Rhodes --> SmallStone --> Fender Twin Reverb... aahhhhh....

I really don't care about noise, at all. I use valve and discrete equipment. Of COURSE it's noisy. It's made that way.

-chris. (whose EH MemoryMan is one of his favorite pieces of gear, ever - noisy as ****, but marvellously organic, with a lovely touch of unpredictable anarchy. )

I am not into digital effects that much either...

I take the analog Boss ones and upgrade the parts.

I wonder what a small stone looks like inside.

Mmmm electronic pron.

One day perhaps...

I haven't actually used any of my SmallStones since I got the 120 Jazz Chorus for the live/rehearsal Rhodes, and the Dimension-D chorus for the studio one...

Those Jazz Chorus amps are LOUD... you aint kidden.

I remember the Demension-Ds. The one with the 4 settings? Or is this the newer version?

I'd love to have all the pedals Boss Made.

One of these days maybe.

I never keep em stock though. Boss/Roland could use better parts...

They need to stop converting all their analog effects to Digital as well.

Do you know all the Super Chorus pedals made after 2001 is digital?

I know, I have one. Looking for a older one on Ebay now.

There is only one Dimension-D.

It is legendary, and justifiably so.

Utterly amazing chorus.

No. That's the Roland/Boss CE-1.

I'm talking about...

Most amazing ****ing chorus on the planet.

Edit: I do love my CE-1, but I hardly use it - not in the studio, and not live (since I have the JC 120, which, yes, is hella loud.

I have two of those - just got them back on Wednesday from maintenence.

You've heard the Dimension-D on a ton of late 70s/early 80s albums. At its most subtle setting, it's what's responsible (along with heavy multitracking) for those extremely wide and massive backing vocals, subtle enough that you don't even really perceive it as a chorus.

And on Rhodes it's just divine.

Though I know those that just replaced their Space Echo with one of these...

No, I shouldn't.

There were complete idiots who sold their minimoogs, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, and Hammonds in the 80s for $100.

The only reason I'd consider selling one of my '201s would be to get an RE-301 or 501.
