Frogs keep me awake at night
Too many frogs of too many different kinds
My house is surrounded by water, this summer there are so many frogs it's just too much. They make so much noise, I don't know what to do. (My friend advised me to open a restaurant)
Why do they make so much noise? Are they horny or something? Then why can't they just all swim to eachother and just do it? What is the purpose of all this

Indeed. Throw a few Viagra pills into the pond and maybe you'll get some peace.

If you have a small pond near your house where the frogs are hanging out you can get rid of them easily. Go to a farm co-op or feed store near you and pick up a salt lick (a block of salt that cows or horses can lick). Plop it on the edge of the water - just on the edge so it doesn't melt fast but melts very slowly. Two inches of water is good.
The salt will go into the water and they will hate it and will leave.
(An old farm trick.)
Also, you know what's worse than frogs? Road traffic. I HATE hearing cars at night or quiet times. We just sold our house because in the middle of the night or when the wind was blowing right, I could hear the noise from a freeway about a mile away.
Now I live someplace where I hear frogs in the back yard (we have a nature preserve in the back with a pond in it) AND in the front yard so we have water on both sides and lots of frogs...
At night I listen to the frogs and the crickets and I just smile when I go to sleep.
They don't bother me in the least.

Your 'old farm trick' can get you arrested if the frogs or the habitat in question are in any way protected. You will also be liable for the clean up costs. So unless you're 100% positive that this is just a pond with a couple of common frogs, don't do this.
On a rethink, don't do this, ever, anyway. Salt really ****s up the environment, especially in wetlands.

I love how people - even people from other countries - dictate the law as they go along.
You don't see many of us telling you what your laws are up there in Toronto, do you Mastrap?
Yes, maybe he should check in his area, not a bad idea. However, in fact, I worked with Fish & Wildlife down here in Florida rehabilitating birds and they do something similar with lime to get rid of frogs. Lime kills them and their babies and salt does not.
The salt erodes very very slowly and they leave, that's all, then you take the salt away.
Most frogs are only cyclic it seems anyway; meaning that they peep in the spring or midsummer and then they leave.
One thing you "forgot" Mastrap is that Florida is naturally salty...we were covered by an ocean, REMEMBER?
Most of our water down here is brackish - meaning that it's salinated. Having a high saline content temporarily doesn't do much.

Apparently, it's very easy to catch frogs.
All you need is a stick, a string and a fishing hook. Assemble them and dangle the hook in front of the frog.
The frog will notice the hook, get furious and attack it.
You now have a frog.
I read this on the internet, so it must be true.

I am not dictating anything - I am just telling the OP that following your, no doubt well meant, advice, could land him in hot (rather than salty) water. Remember, not everybody lives in Florida where you have natural brackish water in your wetlands.

Well, you're right about that.
By the way, my favorite cartoon character is Michigan J. Frog from Looney Tunes, the frog that dances and sings for one person only - and makes a laughingstock out of that person when he tries to capitalize on the talents of the frog and the frog will not perform in public.
"Everybody do the Michigan RAAAAAG!"

Be careful with storks! Storks bring little babies, and if frogs keep you up all night, what do you think babies do?

We don't have storks down here that I've seen, but in my back yard, every single night, we have huge Sandhill cranes walk up and waltz around our yard. They are enormous - four feet tall!
They live in the swamp and pond area in the nature preserve behind our home.
Like Mastrap said, I would never do anything to disrupt their food supply (like trying to get rid of frogs) for fear that they would be harmed.
We love them.
Here's a picture.
It's not our yard, BTW...where we live now there is nothing but about 10 acres of very thick scrub forest and swamp area with a pond at the edge...the Sandhills are very prolific in that natural area - I think there are 40 of them counting their babies.
Also, Sandhill cranes are not afraid of people, apparently. They won't eat anything you offer them (which I don't suggest anyway) because they only eat grubs and worms and frogs and minnows.
But, one night we had music on, jazz, and they came right up to the edge of our patio area, cocked their heads, then started jumping up and down and dancing!
They are fabulous creatures.
Here is where you can listen to the sounds they make.

I doubt VERY much that they're poisonous.
Seriously.
If they were toads, yes, SOME of them are poisonous, but frogs?
We're not talking about African dart frogs for Pete's sake!

I love frogs, they are so cute.
I also love the sounds they make, I fall asleep really easily if I can hear them up at a cottage or something.

The animals in that area have lived with it for thousands, if not millions of years. They've adapted to a high-salt content in otherwise a fresh-water environment. Salt is extremely deadly to native species that don't regularly interact with salt in their environment. Plants and animals will die.

Well, they breed sh*tloads of babies at a time, many animals don't find them all that tasty, and they ARE predators of sorts.

Having frogs around is a good sign that the local environment is still healthy, as frogs are the "litmus test": very sensitive to climate change and or pollution. If you live near water and there are no frogs around, you'll in trouble. So think yourself lucky.

I can totally sympathize with you man. Our apartment has a large pond just feet away from our back bedroom wall, and those little buggers croak all night long every night.
