I watch this last light night and there were some good fights. The Shamrock vs Ortiz fight was a crock of sh*t. The ref called it after 5 elbows to the head in a 2 second time span. I've seen Shamrock take way more damage than that. UFC seems to have gone way down hill. Next months fight ticket is looking pretty good, I'm just not sure if I want to budget $40 a month for each UFC event.

I wish UFC was like it was when it started. Shamrock and Gracie beat the living hell out of each other on numerous occasions. To the point where it was amazing that they could see out of thier eyes.
I think the first fight was the best one last night.

The rules were a lot more laxed in the earlier UFCs. I'm surprised Gracie can still have kids with the number of shots to the nuts.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is boring as hell though. The problem is that it's extremel effective in close combat, but it's just not exciting to watch.

Shamrock and Gracie fought twice. In the first fight Gracie choked Shamrock out 57 seconds into the fight. In their second fight they fought for 36 minutes to a draw, and it was a good beating!
I too wish the UFC was like its early days, but if it was, there would no longer be a UFC. The only way the sport was allowed to continue, and flourish, was to become sanctioned by state athletic commissions, which is where all the time limits and rules came from.
Once again, "the man" takes something fun and ruins it with rules and regulations.

Refs end fights all the time in the UFC. If a fighter is not intelligently defending himself, the fight is over.
Ken did all the wrong things in this fight. He comes out swinging wild punches and charging in.
Stupid.
He allows himself to be taken down.
Bad move, but often unavoidable.
He allows Tito to carry him to the fence, and pin his head up against it. This restricts his mobility and makes his head a great, stationary target.
Stupid.
He does not protect his face during 5 or 6 elbows.
No intelligent defense.
Now, having said all that, I agree that the ref stopped the fight a LITTLE bit too early. I honestly think though, that given more time, Shamrock would have just taken a longer beating.
