Finally! Someone's doing something. They're getting an initial fine of about U.S. $1.36 billion, plus U.S. $2.5 million each day after. Part of the talks includes raising the fines from U.S. $2.5 million to U.S. $3.8 million. That'd add another U.S. $700 million to existing fines, then on from there.

While it'll take about 30 years of these fines before Microsoft would have to even dip into their hordes of cash reserves, it will be a stain on their public image and ultimately hurt their stocks and shareholders.

They got the fine, but not as much. It was reduced to €1.5 million a day, and Microsoft has been extended to the 31st; by then it'll raise to €3 million.

Personally, I don't think Microsoft cares. The entire year's worth of fines only amounts to 10 days worth of pure profit out of the fiscal year for Microsoft.

Their stock, however, took a rather nasty dip.
