The dirty little secret about Apple (AAPL) is that even though it is by far the #1 retailer of digital music, they simply just don’t make that much money from it. One billion songs on iTunes equals only one Billion dollars in revenue since the service was initiated. Apple makes far more money on selling the hardware.
Wha…? A billion dollars plus hardware sales is… bad? A dirty secret? What is this Microsoft-____sucker thinking?
This is the typical apologist mentality pervading the U.S. today. Retahded. Rove, Frist, DeLay, Cheney ring a bell?
The real iPod killer will be the ability to scale the service across multiple platforms, something Apple simply cannot do, and it is an excellent example of the strength Microsoft can derive from its massive reach.
Huh? How is this going to be implemented? Here he's just tossing "scale" "multiple platforms" like he knows what he's talking about, when really his only sources are rumors? Idiot of the first degree. Look, sure Apple needs to keep innovating, sure they need to get the next big thing going, but all this BS sounds a lot like sour grapes to me.
STOP SUCKING MICROSOFT C*CK! It's bad for you.

Google "iPod Killer" and you get around 3,560,000 references.

I'm still struggling to come up with a piece of hardware Microsoft has sold that's done well. The Xbox 360... still isn't consistently beating out the PS2 for crying out loud.

* ahem *
From TFA:
"In May, the PS2 sold approximately 232,000 units to the Xbox 360's 221,000. In April, the roles were reversed, with the Xbox 360 outpacing the PS2 by about 90,000 consoles with an estimated 295,381 consoles sold."
For one month the PS2 pulls ahead, and not by much.

MS actually does make good hardware. The original XBox was a quality device for a 1st gen games console, and it had the most appealing feature set.
The 360's controller is considered by a lot of people to be the most comfortable games controller on the market. The 360 is selling well despite supply shortages, and again, it is a quality machine. It even has a faster processor than the G5.
Their input devices are some of the best on the market.. they're 1) more ergonomic and 2) more functional than Apple's offerings.
I'm no MS fanboy, but there's no need to trash their products. For goodness's sake all they're doing is trying to make a product with better features than the iPod.

I think if I were about to have gay sex with some dude, and he pulled out an MS mp3 player to put some slow music... well, it would be sexier to have a black iPod than that thing.

However, to state that Microsoft makes good hardware products (still debatable) does not infer nor conclude that they are going to come up with an iPod killer. I was simply stating that the author's comments were based on BS, that his lack of logical deduction makes his argument against Apple spurious, and more importantly, that you should stop sucking Microsoft ____.

I didn't imply that they would make an iPod killer, I just pointed out that MS has a successful history with making good quality hardware, and that they shouldn't be written off.

"At the heart of the Xbox 360 is a three-core IBM PowerPC processor running at 3.2 GHz"
Not bad for a $300 box, considering what Apple charges for the PowerMac.

When talking about hardware, the PS3 kills the 360, every component of the PS3 is far superior.

Those three cores *together* have a quarter (or a half, can't remember) the transistors of a single G5 core.
Still not all *that* bad, but then, Microsoft has always sold Xbox at a loss.

Oh, I baited you good.
I was only making a corollary between the U.S. political leadership and the dazed populous vis-à-vis iPod and the consumer market. Not trying to start any sort of political debate; but it's undeniably true that the public will blindly follow the leadership no matter how corrupt, and others will follow Microsoft no matter how crappy the OS/device/thing they make.
That you liken this debate to a simple early Psychology 101 demonstration is yet another logical fallacy, one without any merit; a non sequitur of the typical conservative mindset. It's a pattern: you simply won't acknowledge facts— real facts— not those spoon-fed to you by Fox "News" (note the use of ironic quotes): they lied, cheated, and stole, enough to warrant investigation. And when someone points this out all you can do is call me a salivating dog. Nice backup; good use of logic (not).
Whatever, man.
Seriously, it's cool with me: enjoy your opinions, perhaps some day your world of hate will fade away and you can show love and compassion toward other human beings.

Anyway, the thing is going to be ugly, surely, and be cumbersome to use. The only fear I have is they would make it *just* usable, and push hard enough to edge Apple out. They'll come out with something mediocre, and pawn it off as quality, and destroy the landscape of consumer electronics.

That photo is fake. See the Apple dock connector on the bottom? See how the two side buttons are just 3G iPod buttons? See how the round white corners of the device look exactly like a real iPod?

I don't see any Apple dock connector. I do see a shadow where a connection port likely exists.

Ya, the Zune is certainly not 4:3 portrait. More like 16:9 portrait. Probably not all the way to 16:9, but certainly taller than 4:3

Uh no. If you take a screengrab of that pic's screen, it's about 266x201 pixels.
266x201 = 1.32 ~ 4:3
