uhh, thats just the under coat i believe. im sure itll look a lot beter when they put the actual top layer on. im sure theyll have some kind of solid backing behind the apple and not that crud they have in the pic. heh, i can so see a huge torch on the top of both pillers as well.

edit:
one must read the linked article before postin.

that thing is ugly, but if it was ment to keep the dating of the building correct, than it was a cool and very nice idea.

How is this an embarrassment for Florida? the local government probably mandated the appearance of the building. Apple is probably just doing what they wanted.

More of an embarrassment for Apple.

It'll fit in with all those other tacky art deco buildings:

Is that the original metal sash?

The inside is probably made of wicker.

I think when it's completed, it will fit in well...

Apple spends thousands of dollars (or not more) on staircases... I'm sure they aren't going to simply make an ugly store.

South Beach. Not Hallandale Beach.

This Apple Store will have a very attractive user base. Except to the people in the thread where everybody likes fat chicks.

I totally expect that there will be Spanish signs/pamphlets inside, that half the Macs will have Spanish OSX, and that one third of the staff is Hispanic, half of them Cuban.

Just be glad it doesn't have two pink flamingos on either side of the Apple apple.

It's supposed to be "Art Deco."

tacky, like most of Florida.

The inside is probably made of wicker.

I think it looks fine-but its not finished. I'm a huge fan of art deco and if its done right then its definately not tacky.

You think a steel box with an apple logo on it would look better or a glass cube in the midst of an art deco neighborhood? The sleek steel and glass look that apple prefers to use simply doesn't work everywhere. I'm glad they're willing to compromise. I'm sure like any apple store it'll make a fortune.

um, and they'll serve arroz con pollo?

@@ There's already an Apple Store in Kendall, which is in Miami (not on the beach), and surely already has a large percentage of Latino user base. @@

Half of them Cuban? Even if so, is that a problem?

The L.A. Apple Store I'm guessing has Spanish AND Japanese OS X, with at least 26% of it's staff being Asian, and 37% of it's staff being Mexican.

I can't imagine how the Apple Store is an embarrassment for Florida no matter what it looks like. It will probably be the best thing that happened to Florida.

I think it's going to be a big hit for SoBe.

I'd rather go there than to Kendall any day. Kendall_is_so_far_south...

I hate to go down there...don't do it that often but I guess it's great for the University of Miami and Coconut Grove folks. Otherwise, it's too far south.

The store in SoBe will clean up for sure. It'll probably be a tourist attraction also.

It needs plastic flamingos and a whirlygig. During the opening, Apple could hand out beer-can-ashtrays with the Apple logo on them.

In the recent pic that honestly doesn't look bad. Not super Apple but if it was anyone other than Apple we wouldn't mind nearly so much.

In 2005, Tampa Bay and Miami ranked as the two most violent metropolitan areas in the US.

I can see it now, people getting assaulted in the store over AppleWorks.

Ah! I know exactly where this is. Funny, I remember seeing the boards and scaffolding up down there in the past few times I went. It's not too far from an awesome beer pub, Zeke's, and a light walk from the Abbey. Get saucy and play with Macs. Excellent.

I think those buildings on South Beach, posted by IceEnclosure, are beautiful. In a country (world?) where SO much is the same, I think it's great that the place has a style all its own. I mean, if you're on a street corner in one town, it looks just like another. Same Bed Bath & Beyond. Same Circuit City. Same Chili's. They all look alike. And here in the Southwest, it's even worse, because everything is tan. Even McDonald's... Tan. A splash of color and some unique architecture? Sounds good to me. I think that Apple Store looks great!
