I've been following the MTHEL. It's the Government lovechild from the Star Wars program. It's actually getting to the point where they can destroy over 75% of incoming hostiles with a single laser. This is the latest news I've read up on it, I don't know how it is now. Man, I'd join the Army if it meant I could work with this thing. I'm not too keen on the idea of installing one at an airport.
Here's a pretty cool promotional video, you can watch it actually work:

Cool but how many missiles are being shot at airports?
Should we put these around tall buildings also or anything of value?

Perfect. She's already in the US, but when she tries to come back to Canada we'll zap her.

It seems slow to track when getting multiple targets. Maybe they could just paint the sky with it in a volley?

The projectiles it's tracking are designed to be fired from a long distance. It'd be totally useless in shortrange attacks.
However, if they can get them small enough (it's already small enough to stick on a truck) they could have 3 or 4 of them networked and each target different hostile.

Lets hope it doesn't mistake a plane for a missile and zap it.

Ummm... from the article:
Northrop described Skyguard as capable of destroying rockets, mortars, artillery shells, unmanned aerial vehicles, short-range ballistic missiles, as well as cruise missiles.
Seems a bit more sophisticated. I wonder what's next... bullets?

I suppose in the future that'd be possible...something that would track and destroy bullets in milliseconds.

"Short range" ballistic missiles are still fired from within 1000 kilometers. What I meant by short range was less than 5 kilometers.
But you're right, the one in the article is a lot more sophisticated than the video. That video isn't very recent.

Gravitomagnetic field generators can stop a bullet. Wouldn't need a laser if you had one of those. You'd just need to shrink it down. They're currently about the size of a small building. Heh.
