My apologies to those that read this anyway, but I don't so I figured I'd post it here for everyone to see.
Bill Gates recently stated that he felt Vista had an 80% chance of shipping in January. He even said he'd be glad to delay it if beta testers say so. Apparently, this latest talk of Vista getting kicked back yet again was the last straw on Wil Shipley's back, as he has offered a $10,000 bet to Bill Gates that Vista doesn't ship by January.
Think he'll accept??

Bill doesn't need $10,000. Bill doesn't need the bad publicity of losing that bet. There's no publicity for Bill winning the bet.
I don't see Bill accepting. He stands to gain nothing.

Yah, even if I KNEW it would deliver before 1/7... I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't even respond to the request.
Either way, it makes Vista look bad.

Offering $10,000 to Bill Gates is like offering to slice a penny in half.

I just hope he doesn't think anyone actually cares that he offered up that bet.
Delicious Library is cool and all, but WTF?
P.S. He's betting his $10000 vs. $30000 of Bill Gates' money.

In the words of Robin Colcord: " In the time it takes for me to say $10,000 I make $10,000".

*Bill starts rummaging through his couch*
Yeah, one sec, Wil, I think I have $10,000 here someplace.
*yells out to Melinda*
Honey?! Can you check the dryer lint filter? I think I saw $4,000 in there.
Ah, here we go. $10,000. Here's another $3,000,000. I forgot I carpeted my house with Benjamins.

I've tried Vista Beta 2 and just can't understand why anyone would be waiting for it anyway. Does anyone, other than Microsoft, really even care when it ships?

I think most people are still getting used to Windows XP, Vista hasn't even entered their minds.

People will switch when they buy new computers with Vista already on it, for the most part.

For my end-user experience, moving from OS9 to OSX was infinitely easier than XP to Vista. I spent so much time trying to figure out how to do things in Vista, I gave up. Intuitive, it definitely is not.
Our CIO was really hot on the Vista/Office combo (he had been spun into a hype frenzy by MS Marketing), even so much as delaying our XP rollout so we could decide which to go with. So, we threw it on his laptop for him to play with recently. After a day of trying to do things, he gave up. It was way too different than he was used to. His skills are a bit above an average and if he couldn't figure it out, I could just imagine our end user's brain caving in.
But, I digress.
I would like Vista to ship as early as possible and to be installed on as many machines as possible quickly thereafter. I'm gleefully awaiting the millions of people that are truly turned off for good from their Windows/Microsoft user experience.
