I am appalled at the enormous amount of anti-psychiatry nonsense posted at YouTube by Scientologists and the CCHR. I've had enough of this blatant misinformation campaign.
So, I decided to do something about it.
A few months ago, I saw "Lighting the Darkness," a documentary on CTV about a new treatment for severe depression called Deep Brain Stimulation. If you've ever wanted to see a miracle, you should watch this.
Chantel's Story of Depression and Deep Brain Stimulation.
Here's the original story at CTV's W5: Lighting the Darkness
This story proves once and for all that mental illnesses like depression are physical illnesses of the brain. It's not merely psychosomatic, and it's certainly not "possession by alien thetans."
I've added several other mental health related vids too:
Noelle's Story of ADHD
Another tale of Deep Brain Stimulation
Teens, Depression, Cognitive Therapy, and Prozac
Psychiatrists respond to Tom Cruise
(You guys did so much for my "Colbert interviews Miller" video, I hope you'll at least watch Chantel's story. Don't forget to comment and/or rate!)
I'm really interested to hear people's opinions on psychiatric drugs like Prozac and Ritalin.

I have seen Ritalin work. I have seen second generation antidepressants work. I KNOW because of what I have seen that mental illnesses are REAL and not some idiot's idea of "bad parenting" or personal weakness.
Good work bringing more real evidence to light. I hope that some people can be swayed by evidence, and let go their emotional ties to the falsehoods they've learned.

Scientologists.....hmm....they create the illusion that they have many followers and lots of power. The reality is they have a tenth of the following they claim and most of the people you think are afraid of them just really can't be bothered to waste their time with grown up Xenu babies.
It's a weak organisation going nowhere. People who left it say that all the money is going to be stolen in a few years when the top people make a run for Barbados with all the cash and leave the religion to fall on its knees.

Nice job, but if you're going up against the Scientologists, I won't be surprised if you "disappear" soon.
I can definitely buy the idea that we're over-prescribing some medications, that the pharmaceutical companies are in it for profit rather than helping humanity, etc. But it's unfortunate that some people swing so far the other direction.

Hey everybody: don't forget to rate the vids at YouTube.
Do a search of "psychiatry" at YouTube: almost every vid on the first page is a Scientology propaganda flick. I wanna try and push them down off the first page.
Can you help? Please and Thanks!

Scientology is a form of self hypnosis, or rather self betrayal, where the victim keeps reading the BS and taking the costly tests. it's a scam that the bullheaded, yet shallow and easily fooled types fall for in droves. A good friend was involved with them in the mid 1970's and after a while he realized that it was BS. In the late 1970's we saw some scientologists handing out propaganda on the streets and trying to engage others in 'discussions' but when we showed up and had more serious, technical questions they shut us off and wouldn't talk to us anymore, saying we didn't exist to them anymore!?!?!? I'm sure that when any scientologist is cornered that they do the same thing rather than admit they are stooges to the scientology cult.

I used to live beside a Scientology Church (or whatever it's called).
I got pamphlets in my mailbox all the time and would read them just to see what they'd put in their pamphlets. It was shocking to see just how much they targeted those with mental problems. The stuff in the pamphlets would really feed into the anti-psychiatrist paranoia that some psychotic patients would feel, and basically suggested that everyone would be better off stopping their medications (and joining Scientology).
P.S. Wrong forum?

Nope. Most of the other big religions can coexist peacefully (for the most part) with psychiatry/psychology. OTOH, Scientology specifically attacks psychiatry and psychology, on a regular basis.
Scientology's official stance on psychiatry and psychology
Convinced that man is only a body, psychology and psychiatry have forwarded the idea that there is no soul, merely a physical brain, an aggregation of tissue and nerve cells.
And since man no longer has a soul, he can be degraded still further through all manner of barbaric “treatments.” In fact, the array of primitive methods dreamed up by “modern” psychiatrists includes hypnotic drugs, lobotomies, electric shock and bolts to the brain while a person is drugged and comatose — each of which leaves a person little more than a vegetable.
The psychologist believes in materialism. This is the principle that all is purely matter — hopes, dreams, love, inspiration — all just chemical reactions in the brain. Following from this theory, he has attempted to create a society where the body is glorified over the spirit, and where material possessions are more important than one’s spiritual well-being.
In such a society, where spiritual values are no longer given credence, man soon loses touch with both his past and his future. Religion, then, becomes an “opiate,” while the new high priests of psychiatry, handsomely supported by taxpayers, conduct worthless government studies that provide no solutions.
I am by no means a believer in everything the psychiatrists and psychologists promote. In fact, I can be quite critical of many things in those professions. However, it's quite clear that many modern treatments are quite effective and beneficial for the patient. Nonetheless, Scientology criticizes them all, and uses that criticism to recruit new people, some of whom that may be more easily convinced to part with their money than the average person with no significant psychological problems.

I think this thread is in the right forum because I do not feel that Scientology is actually a religion in the traditional sense or even a modern sense. Ever read L. Ron Hubbard's work? It's not bad for pulp science fiction, but even though his contemporaries liked him, they weren't absolutely thrilled with his books.
Of course there may be something to Scientology... L. Ron is apparently still publishing, and he's been dead for a LONG time now.

Well, Scientology has tax exempt status in the US, and Australia recognizes it as a religion.

Interesting.
Thanks for posting.
I'm glad she has been cured of her horrible depression. I just hope she has not been made completely incapable of feeling sadness. It's an important part of the human experience. Like, I have this picture of her at the funeral of a loved one, looking like this:

I read somewhere (couldn't turn it up just now) that scientology applied to the American Psychiatric or Psychological Association for status as a legitimate type of therapy, but was denied, and that was the start of "the troubles."

Was she a lesbian before the procedure, or only after? Maybe this brain surgery makes you both happy and gay.

Definitely before. The surgery just acted as a lesbian make-over

lpkmckenna not sure you can win this battle. They have people on their payroll that do NOTHING but FUD up the internet.
I recently had a little tiff with Barbara Schwarz About her character assassinations.
So I started Photoshopping pics of her and posting them in the scientology newsgroups.
She's a nut.
