So I'm in Germany for the summer, and I'm trying to figure out why in God's name it is *CHEAPER*, according to billigertelefonieren.de, to call the USA with a prefix number than a German landline (and of course, handy) with a prefix number. It costs a cent (0,01) per minute to call the US and 10+ cents per minute to call anywhere in Germany, even next door. Am I getting this wrong and being charged a billion euros a minute to call home or is there some some sort of bureaucratic mindf**k going on that I'm not aware of?

Gruß!

I'm seeing 1.24 cts/minute for long-distance within Germany - daytime, weekday.

Most telcoms offer a cheap landline flatrate with the regular contract now, so...

Yep, I see that now, but it goes up at night and it's still (somewhat) more expensive than calling America. And calling Handys even now costs 10+ cents.

Everything is alright here - calling America is about the cheapest you can do!
Calling next door is more expensive (or ist costs nothing if you have the right contract) and calling mobile phones is quite expensive!

I have HanseNet Deluxe for example: €49.-/month
- landline to landline within Germany costs nothing
- 16MBit down/1MBit up flatrate
- all other prizes are quite cheap but not the cheapest (but I cannot use prefix numbers)
