Does eVite send your email to spammers?

I've been very protective of my .Mac email because I receive very little spam to that account. Recently, a person from school abused an email list and used my .Mac adress to invite people to her stupid party using eVite (this is a professional school, by the way. Not high school).
So now I'm mad that she surrendered my flippin email address to potential spammers- but I want to make sure it will go to the bad guys before I chew her out.

Well, something got my .Mac after all these years, and yes, I got sent eVites, along with other stuff recently ("so and so thinks you might like this article").
People just don't learn. "Do not give out my email to anyone" doesn't seen to register to anybody. I guess they feel web sites are safe.

I think there are just too many ways to get your email. Some will filter through websites, from DNS entries (I get Credit card offers that way), random, etc.
It's frustrating.

Most definitely.
I guard my school email with my life, but my school sells it to spammers
I set up a gmail account to use for real stuff, and a gmail account for website registrations, etc.
I also have an old hotmail account I can fall back on.

If they're anything like what you've been coming up with recently, I'm not surprised in the least.

Yeah, I have this friend who absolutely loves to send evites. She sends evites eventhough she knows for a fact that people are coming. I guess it's just a way to make her feel better having a list. But man I hate evites.

Why don't you just read the privacy policy?
http://www.evite.com/pages/custservice/privacy.jsp
4. Use Of Guest Contact Information:
We use your guests' contact information to allow them to respond to and comment on your Evite invitation. At your request, we may send Reminders to your guests and display their email addresses to your other guests. We also may send a post-event email to you and your guests. If you use our Reminders service, we use the information you provide in your Reminders to send it to you and others to whom you have requested it be sent. Evite does not sell, share or otherwise provide any guests' contact information you give to us with any Business Partner, unless required by law, court order or as required to technically operate the service.
You may delete your email address from the guest list by requesting to be removed from the guest list on the invitation page. Once your email address is removed from the guest list, it will no longer be accessible to other guests (unless you are subsequently invited to another party, in which case your email address will be accessible to guests of the new event).
Looks like you're in the clear, but get used to spam anyway. It's a fact of life.

I set up a hotmail and a yahoo account a while back as a test. I didn't give them out to anyone and within a week received spam.

Someone gave my .Mac address to mild spammers recently as well, despite the fact that I stopped giving that address out a while ago and use .Mac aliases instead. These messages tell me I don't have to have good "cre dit" to get a mortgage . Never heard of or used eVite, though.
