I work for a Microsoft IT shop and have to hand in my education plan this coming Monday (July 24). I've convinced my supervisor to extend our services to the Apple community and allow me to obtain my Apple Certification. However, reviewing Apple's website, it has become evident that the Apple Certification training manuals have not been updated to include Intel architecture.

I have no interest in becoming certified only to renew my certification months later to include the Intel Mac's and the upcoming Mac OS X 10.5. However, I'll have to suffer the lack of 10.5 certification because I simply do not have the time to wait for it. Intel's, on the other hand, are becoming popular items and it seems necessary that my certification should cover them.

Any information you have regarding this issue would be much appreciated. For example, will the current training manuals be adequate to obtain my certification? It would kill me to take my exam, only to realize none of the material was covered in the manuals.

I'm interested in obtaining the following:

- Apple Certified Desktop Technician (ACDT)

And later on:

- Apple Certified Portable Technician (ACPT)

I appreciate the time you've taken to read this and apologize if I have posted this topic in the wrong forum. Any responses are accepted with gratitude and I hope to hear from you very soon. Thank you!

I believe the ACDT and ACPT covers both architectures.

If you read the System Requirements on this PDF found at this page in the Apple Store (US) it states that a PowerPC Processor is required.

Do you think Apple simply neglected to update this PDF?

I believe the technician training gives you access to the service manuals on Service Source for a year, so you should have access to the latest materials there. I'd think that the vast majority of content wouldn't be any different for the Intel Macs, though.

You might also want to take a look at http://train.apple.com/certification/hardware.html as well.
