so recently i was given a 60gb ipod video as a gift out of the blue by moms, and oh man was i happy to get it. so i quickly went to macnn's marketplace to put my old 40gb 3rd gen on sale. as i posted the sale, i had a small part of me hope that nobody wanted the ipod so i wouldnt have to sell it. ive grown attached to it for the last 2.76 years and didnt want to see it go. so when i got no offers on the ipod i realized i really wanted to keep the 40gb, after all i still believe its the best looking ipod to date (3rd gen). so i ended up giving my 60gb ipod to a cousin seeing how i know he ALWAYS wanted an ipod but never had one. i felt soooo great keeping my old 40gb and giving a family member an awesome surprise. he took his flight back to montreal yesterday, and as i was hanging out by the pool my friends and i decided to go to ikea. so i started changing, and i grabbed my jeans and out of nowhere my beloved ipod took a violent snap to the ground....split apart into 3 pieces....and took a dive in the pool. its beyond repairable and im totally bumbed now. and the worst part was that i gave it such a cleaning the day before with some brasso...3hrs to be exact. i put soo much elbow grease into it and got it looking SOOOOOO good, and all of that went to $h!t. i have another cousin who purchased an ipod along with his macbook recently just so he could sell the ipod, and he has a brand new 60gb video sitting in his room...only thing is, he wants $300 for it. im such an idiot .

p.s. i dont believe in karma any longer, but i wont stop being a nice guy.

Karma takes time. Perhaps you would have gotten hit by a car because you didn't hear it crossing the street.

Not likely, but if you can lie to yourself to feel better, you still end up feeling better.

Karma's quite subjective, and usually it ends up being random events that get significance projected into them. Don't read too much into it.

You just gave a 60 gb iPod? But we're selling you're old 40 gb in the first place.

i hate 3rd gen ipods and their buttons. I was so glad to ditch mine and get a 4g with a click wheel. But then the hd died on that too. Ugh. Next time I get an ipod it's going to be a nano...moving delicate parts in portable consumer electronics is a stupid idea. HDs just DO NOT LAST. You don't even have to drop tehm, they just quit working.

It was really cool that you could be selfless enough to give away a $300 item, as long as you didn't expect good things to magically happen to you because of it.

You sound like a cool cousin. It's unfortunate that your iPod broke... but all things break. The thing with karma is... you can't expect something in return.

so are you without an ipod completely? Hopefully your cell phone has some kind of walkman feature so you can still get by until a new pod comes your way.

do good things, and good things happen.

3G ipod is the best, I had the 15GB since 2003 (Or something close to that) and it has not even one scratch on it. Used clear tape to cover everything that was exposed when it was in the case. If only the video ipod had the 3G buttons...best iPod ever.

The 3G iPods sure did suck. I don't know what went through Apple's head with that one: Oh, we have the most intuitive button system in the world, for our next trick let's make four separate non-buttons, because we all know how cool they are. Look at the shiny lights consumers. LOOOOOK!

Now 2G - that's a keeper. Mmmmmm....real buttons.

Well...I have to disagree about your 3G iPod comment. I had a 2G, that was awesome, but it was a bit too thick, so I sold it to get the 3G.

Even Apple agrees with the 3G UI blunder - hence the click wheel in the 4G. People want tactile interfaces.

as promised...

and for the battery...im sorry bud, but i gave it to my buddy (along with all the parts). he called dibs a bit quicker than you did, but i have an old battery for the ipod that still holds about an hour charge if ya want, not much but atleast it'll work. also if you google ipod battery replacement you could find places selling replacements for about 15 bucks total after shipping...not too shabby.

oh yeah...and movable buttons are teh suck.
