A new camera from Nikon is coming August 9th. Looks to be a replacement of D70s. While its a little teaser on thier website, it does look like it will have some nice features.

Now I'm definitely in a quandry, I've been saving up to purchase a new desktop machine that apple is presumably unveiling August 7th and now a new camera is also being unveiled. I only have money for one.

I'll have to wait and see, I'm using aperture on an intel mini and while it doesn't suck it's no speed demon. I love my mini, its cube like, small and wonderful design. doesn't take up too much desk space either. Speed wise, I'm for the most part content with. Office, is fine, even photoshop (I'm not a heavy PS users) is ok. Aperture, well, I grade that a C or C- on the mini - some tasks, performance is ok, but on some operations I do incur the spinning beachball of death and have to wait until its stops processing.

Oh well so many choices so little money

How much RAM you got in the mini?

2 gig.

If I stick with the mini, I'll be upgrading the HD to a larger and faster drive and I may replace the cpu. I'm guestimating that the new apple desktop will run me around 2500 and the camera between 1000 and 1500 naked (no lens). With the extra funds left over if I purcahse the camera, I'll upgrade the mini.

you can also just buy a firewire drive, no need to give up a perfectly good drive.

I know especially if I don't want to open up the mini, something about using a putty knife on a computer seems so wrong

Tell me about it. Adding more RAM to my intel Mini was the most traumatizing computer upgrade I have ever performed.

There's already a several-days-old thread in Peripherals about the new Nikon.
