I'm thinking of buying a DVD Recorder to use with my DirecTV DVR. Sometimes I want to make copies on DVDs of good shows. My manual says I can "Save to VCR" and just output from a VCR to a DVD Recorder. So, I am looking for recommendations on what's good out there.
Thanks!

I got a Lite-On LVW-1107HC1 for about $90 (before tax) on sale at Best Buy recently. It works great as a "VCR replacement." Don't try to use your DirecTV receiver to program recording on it though-Lite-On has a proprietary remote code so NOBODY's remotes or IR programmers seem to work with them. Manually, or programming both the DirecTV receiver and the DVD recorder work well for me.

So, you set your Lite-On to record directly from the DirecTV feed? Or do you save a show on the HD and then export it via "Save to VCR" to the Lite-On?

I don't have a DirecTV DVR. I hook up either the rear A/V or front A/V inputs on the recorder to the outputs on the DirecTV receiver, then program the receiver to tune to a program, and the DVD recorder to start recording for the correct length of time. Since the recorder doesn't really start until it has an input, I can give it a broader timeframe than the program and not worry too much about synchronizing the clocks on the two boxes. I imagine you could do the same hookups, and then use the "save to VCR" function on the DVR to record the program.
