These guys can play their asses off...

This is a sneak peak from an album coming out Sept. 26. It features Medesy, Martin & Wood + John Scofield on guitar.

This band is really solid. Each musician demonstrates a real responsiveness in this track and feeds this solid groove with a lot of musical energy. These kind of musical situations take place when each member of the band has giant ears and is listening intently and responding to one another, unlike a lot of pop music which I find pretty static and musically insensitive.

What do you think?

It would fall under the large and vague umbrella of Jazz fusion, probably because of the jazz backgrounds of these musicians.

Jazz fusion is simply the combination of different genres often coupled with improvisation. This particular track includes elements of Blues, Funk, and Gospel, although you could make the argument for other inclusions as well.

Both MMW and Scofield have tons of other albums out. Scofield used to play with Miles Davis and is very big in the world of guitar players. MMW was Scofield's rhythm section from his album "A Go Go", available on iTunes. Unlike A Go Go where MMW played Scofield's tunes as hired guns, this is a much more collaborative effort.

Oh yeah.

Oh yeah.

I love MMW with a passion. And I normally can't stand Scofield.

Loved A Go-Go though.

I notice they're actually called MSMW for this album.

Actually, I don't have any of his other stuff.

Because none of it ever appealed to me.

"Can't stand" is too strong, I suppose. I "can't stand" John McLaughlin. I don't much care for what I've heard of Scofield, apart from the MMW stuff.

Just wondering if it was something specific about him you didn't like - say his improv style or something, because each of his albums are vastly different from his last. He's into "musical flings".

Recently, he's recorded his Ray Charles album, jazz stuff in trio, stuff like Uberjam, he's been on a sideman in many other jazz groups, etc. He gets around....
