And loving it
See this, my first, thread here
Ill give you a rundown of the things I have learned to do in the short week that I have owned this book. Keep in mind that I have been a [heavy] PC user for 8 years now...
1. Used Apple Script to enhance my Quicktime movies to full size
2. Fully integrate my old files/settings from PC.
3. Learned most of the short-cuts in OSX, making my life easier. (The only thing holding me back from un-adulterated computer Geekery is CPU speed, and RAM, whereas, with a PC, it was constant BSDs, spyware, adware, bloatware, viruses, trojans)
I like Steve Jobs.
I just wish people would come around.
I cant wait to Tri-boot this Macbook. That is the pinnacle of 1337 goodness. I might even choose Computer Science as my second major, but with all of these sick ass proggys to create artistic stuff (Ableton, Finale, Photoshop, Premiere, and Logic) I feel like a kid in a candy store.
Srsly, this isnt a sarcastic thread.
If you have a problem with the price of a mac, you obviously have never used one.
this is fact

Triple booting might be the pinnacle of leetness... but... that means having Windows on your machine. I dont' know if I could subject a Mac to that. I'd feel bad.

You're not leet until you've triple booted a PC (and one of those OSs has to be OS X), ask me about it in about 12 hours, it will be done.

I also switched to mac with the purchase of my Powerbook a year ago, and I couldn't be happier. When I got Windows 95 around 11 years ago, it took me weeks to figure out how to accomplish anything. With OSX, I got everything up and running with new widgets and programs within a day. All hail Apple.

Personally, I prefer running 3 OSs on the Mac in parallel (in Parallels) than triple booting. Having to reboot every time I wanted to briefely do something in one of the other OSs would be painful.

for me, i dont expect I'll be doing anything in widnows/linux very often, so I would not mind re-booting, but I dont have an intel mac yet, so Im no authority on the sunject.

I'm new to mac too. I have a question for you guys. I have gotten conflicting reports on whether macs are or are not immune to viruses/spyware/adware. Is is worth it too install virus protection, spybot etc?

dkman: While viruses and spywares are generally written for the PC world, the Mac is not immune. There have been very few viruses but none threatening. The advice is it's wise to look into a virus protection program.
BUT, in reality I have been a Mac user since 2002 and don't use any virus protection program. I tried using the Norton thing but that caused more problems than helping. Again, your mileage may vary. In my opinion, as the popularity of Apple and the Mac increase, so too, will we see an increase in viruses targeting our platform. For now though OSX and Macs are much safer than PC, even without any antivirus programs.

You're not immune. So don't go installing random .app bundles that seem to come from non-reputable sources. Personally though I have yet to encounter a Mac virus and I switched all the way back in 99. Most anti-virus apps will fubar your machine more than a virus would. Only real thing to worry about might be a virus in an office file. Yet another reason why I don't use Office
