It's hard to look up a sybol on the internet so I'm going to ask here. One symbol was two circles overlapping very close to one another, kind of like a mushed mastercard logo. The other symbol looked like an X, with arrowheads on the top half. Kind of like two spears crossed.
My grandfather is a friendly 86 year old Jewish man, who isn't a public figure in any way. He pretty much sticks to himself. The police think it might be a hate crime, but I would find that shocking. My theory is that this is some sort of very random thing. I really can't see how my grandfather would be a target of hate. It doesn't make any sense. Maybe if he had a Star of David in his window or an Isreali flag... but he doesn't have anything like that displayed on his house. I also can't see him making an enemy of anyone who would come back and do something like that to him.
At any rate, does anyone have any idea what these symbols could possibly mean? I have not actually seen them yet, so my description comes straight from my aunt. I wish I could give more details.

try and get some pics so we can get a more accurate idea of what they look like. But in the meantime, my idea would be some stupid kids thinking they're funny by doing this. It probably doesnt have any real meaning, just random shapes.
good luck figuring it out though.

Yeah, I'd go with "alien spacecraft landing site" as the most probable explanation, until you come up with evidence to indicate otherwise.

I don't think it's totally logical to say that because something mysterious happened, aliens had to have done it. The more rational explanation is that this was a hoax by elves, since the markings are a bit on the small side.

You could check the ADL(anit-defamation league) website. They have a gallery of known symbols associated with hate groups. On the home page click "Combating Hate" and then you'll see gallery choices.

Hm, you might wanna PM MacNStein, he knows about stuff like that.
His current sig is this, looks pretty familiar, just with a T instead of the X.

The aliens of the Smarnak galaxy are about elve size. You don't think Smarnak galaxy aliens are capable of space travel?
I'm sick of your intergalactic racial prejudice.

My aunt is a dumbass. I have now seen a drawing of this symbol and it looks nothing like what she described on the phone. It is a single circle, with an x in the middle. There are two points outside of the X that sort of look like cat ears or horns or something.
It went from my aunt telling me that the police were investigating this as a hate crime and had sent out an investigation unit to my father telling me that a cop came out and was pretty sure it was just some kids.
funny how a story sounds completely different when told by a person with a decent grip on reality.

Utility companies often mark locations for possible digging. If the description was so inaccurate, is it possible the "burnt" part is inaccurate too? I'd expect flourescent marking paint if it were an underground service location.
