The new iChat features in Leopard are awesome, but I don't know anyone who uses the AIM network. In Canada, MSN rules absolutely. It's really annoying.

iChat: USA + Europe
MSN: Europe
Skype: Worldwide

I prefer iChat, that's the only service I'm online most of the time.
The others I log on occasionally.

Isn't this going to be the third time you've been banned today? What's your record?

AIM/iChat. Had been using Adium, but got annoyed with it and switched back to iChat.

I had tried to migrate to GoogleTalk through iChat but couldn't get any of my friends to do the same so I gave up on that.

I use iChat with Jabber to different services. I don't get your USA only vs. anywhere but the USA distinction. What am I supposed to pick when I chat from Germany to the USA?

Friends here in the US use AIM, so I'm on there, friends overseas either use MSN or Yahoo, so I'm on those too.

The only thing stopping me from switching to the Leopard iChat is multiclient, but then again I read you can do the Jabber thing, so I might investigate that when the time comes. For now, I'll use Proteus.

I use iChat, logging into AIM and GoogleTalk. I use Yahoo Messenger as well (currently running the new beta, quite nice) and I use aMSN sometimes as well. I have Adium but I'm keen on file transfer/direct connections etc that I get with iChat, so I usually stick to the dedicated programs.

Between the three (aMSN, Yahoo and iChat) I can send/receive files with friends with ease, and do video chats in all three programs.

AIM/MSN, all in the USA (except one person I know who lived in Germany for a time and used AIM+MSN), Adium. I have more friends on AIM but not by much. I don't know anyone who uses other IM services.

Each new version of iChat adds something that looks really cool, but a) I don't have a webcam/iSight and b) I don't know anyone who uses iChat even on their Macs.

I think it has something to do with the A in AIM. AIM and ICQ were the leaders here in the states (before AOL bought ICQ) in the early days. I assume the resistance to AOL overseas and their reluctance to focus on those markets—the former was probably the cause in that equation—MSN was able to swoop in and take over. I'd guess bundling played a part (as well as the Passport/Hotmail connection). I know this happened after AIM had made its foothold in America, because the first versions of MSN were lackluster at best.

  • Adium/iChat: AOL - Europe
  • Skype: Skype - Europe

I used AIM until I got iChat.

O yeah, and I used ICQ a long time ago. I also used GAIM on DamnSmallLinux for like four minutes.

AIM mostly, but I've got accounts for most of the services and typically use Adium as to not worry about which is which.

The increase in Macs sold here has helped AIM. Still, MSN reigns supreme with younger people while somehow most people older than 55 have discovered Skype.

Use Adium for MSN and Yahoo 90% of the time, although use Mercury Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger if I want to use my iSight.

Also use Skype, but only with a couple of people.
