How is this guy's name pronounced like Sean or Shawn or Shaun, I don't get it, should it have a Ch sound like chair?

It really annoys me when people spell their names all crazy.

I knew someone who was born Andre, but, just to be cool, they changed the spelling to (wait for it) Ondrej.

You should have killed him. Seriously, it would have been the right thing to do.

My name is spelled a little different than the norm, and I'm sure people may think its something I do to be "hip" or some ****, that's just the way my mom spelled it. Doesn't matter anyway, everyone calls me "Shawn" despite the fact that it's not my name.

There are a number of ways to spell my name. I use two 'n's, while some people use only one. The vowel could be an 'e' or a 'y' or probably something else. I just checked, and yes, a LOT of different spellings fit as "Glenn" variations. Mostly they're Celtic, not goofy (though it's sometimes hard for an English speaker to tell the difference). I've always liked being just a tad different-many people want to only use one 'n' in spelling my name-but not so different that I get odd looks. "My name is Raymond Luxury-Yacht (pronounced Throatwobbler Mangrove)" just doesn't work for me.

Irish names are really hard also.

Here are approximate transiliterations for the letters that
don't exist in English. The slash above the letter is called a
fada in Irish, meaning long, because it lengthens the vowel).

á = aw - awe, crawl (a - flat in Ulster)
é = ay - hay, bray
í = ee - feed, creep
ó = o - owe, flow
ú = oo - cool, fool (more like the French word for "where")

Some of the consonants are pronounced differently.

s = sh (when it is in the stressed syllable)
bh = v
dh = g
mh = w
th = h

Note that the letters j,k,q,v,w,x,y,z do not occur in Irish.
The letter c is always pronounced hard, as in cow, never soft
as in cigarette.

Irish spelling insists on grouping "fat" vowels and "thin"
vowels when they are separated by a consonant. The fat vowels
are a, o and u. The thin vowels are e and i. So if a word
would have a fat vowel followed by a consonant (or several)
followed by a thin vowel breaks the rule: a vowel must be
inserted to balance the spelling. Thus "Osín" is wrong; it must
be "Oisín"; "Sibhán" must be turned into "Siobhán". The
extra letter is generally silent.

Unless it's a foreign name, this bs about pronouncing your name any way you want is just plain stupid. Sorry, you can't simply override the rules of English pronunciation because you feel like it. His name being pronounced "shaun" is like me saying "my name is Robert, pronounced Gilbert." He's a tosser. Probably refers to himself in the third person, too. "The Chone." Asshat.
