I remember a while back (during one of the regular bouts of 'video iPod' rumour explosions) a fuzzy pic was posted of an alleged Video ipod. It had a screen covering most of the front with the 'wheel' right over at the right hand edge, it was white (obviously) with a darker bit that edged both the screen and the wheel parts joining up where they came close.

Now here're where it gets odd, A similar looking thing has been posted as a sneak at MS's 'iPod Killer' the Zune. here. Reading the description of the UI on that page, MS better be paying Creative for rights to the patent, as it seams VERY similar to the on the iPod.

NeXT was founded in 1985. They had the column function for nearly 10 years before Rio. I'm wondering if Apple will be able to get past the lawsuit since they own NeXT and have prior art (or whatever.)

Microsoft doesn't have a leg to stand on, except for their hordes of cash and armies of lawyers.

From the link (Emphasis mine):
Right now, the feeling is that Microsoft may have gotten a few things closer to right than normal, but neither any individual part of the package nor the complete experience will truly rival the iPod’s super-simple, mainstream experience. At best, we’ve heard predictions that Zune will fight for the same fraction of “tech geek” market share (15%) that Apple hasn’t yet taken; at a $300 entry point with a 30GB hard drive, it’s hard to imagine that Zune gains traction in the iPod’s strongest market, the iPod mini- and nano-loving $250-and-under tiny device buyers. We’ll just have to see.
