I had to have my cat Tory put down this morning. He'd been sick, fighting what we though was an ear infection complicated by skin damage from scratching at it. As it turns out, it was more likely a tumor. He has been sick for a couple of months, and rallied once or twice, but never for long. He was ten years old. We miss him terribly.

The picture is of Tory with my dog Silver. Poor Silver doesn't have enough of the sofa because Tory is hogging it!

Damn, that really sucks man. I have two older cats (about 13 years old) and I know I'll be a wreck when they pass.

Sorry to hear that, GH.

Looks like a typical cat, though. They can never get enough room.
My cat can take up half of a 6-foot long couch when she is in full-stretch lounge mode.
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

RIP Tory. I hate to read things like this, but at the same time, it is nice to know that other people love their pets as much as I do.

I had to put our Darby down six years ago, and it still makes me sad.

I'm sorry for your loss. Play with Silver a little extra, he'll be wondering where the couch hog is.

I'm also very sorry for your loss GH. My cat Cassidy passed away on april 1st this year due to cancer. I made a thread about it as well. It's hard but at least you have pictures and memories of Tory.

Sorry man. If you know my sites, you know how much I love cats -- I feel for you.

Sorry, ghp.
Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

I too am sorry for your loss. Just know that your friend is no longer in pain, which is the important thing.

Take care,

That's very sad. But sounds like he saw a good innings. 10 years -- Cat years or human years?

Thanks everyone. Tory was 10 years old on the calendar we use, but our cats tend to live to be quite old-we've had them get to 21, and late teens isn't uncommon.

Thanks again.

Sorry to hear that
It's usually the end of an era if a pet that age dies. Just remember first few days when you got him, you were probably still in the military …

My dog (14) isn't doing too well either, she needs to have more teeth pulled. The problem aren't the teeth, necessarily, but surgery. Last time, it took her a week to recover :/
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss.

My cat (toby, 9yr) just went through emergency surgery for an abdominal infection - and is rallying.

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

Go Toby!!!

Oreo, we got Tory about a year after we moved to San Antonio. He was a tiny kitten hiding in the overhead of the drive through area at the day care our son was at for before and after school. How the kitten got up ther is beyond us, but we collected him and brought him home and he was part of the family right away.

I was indeed still in the military-I was barely halfway through my career then. Wow.

Thanks all.

Sorry to hear about your loss, ghp. Our family is very close to our pets, so I sympathize.

I'm taking our 3 year-old cat to the vet tomorrow - we just discovered a large lump on his side, and I've no clue to what it is.

I'm feeling your loss too Glenn. One of our cats (my parents had them after I moved out) had to be put down about a year ago too at 16. It's like losing a childhood friend.

If it's soft and feels like it could be almost fluid-filled, then it's not likely to be a problem. If it's hard, then tyat may require treatment, and quickly.

If we'd been able to SEE what was wrong with Tory, maybe... Anyway, good luck with your cat.
