Hi,
I need to know (best guess possible), how much does 3.32544 cubic metres of soil (my guess 10% silt, 10 sand, 80% clay) weigh. The soil was rather dry at the top. but half a meter down it was quite moist and very compact (all the way down actually).
Hopefully there's a more or less standard table of soil weights, say 1 cubic centimeter = 5 grams or something like that.

Can't you just take a sample, weigh it and extrapolate ?

Seems to depend on a lot of variables - especially its moisture content.

That's hard to do when the density changes throughout the sample. You'd have to compute the average density of each type of material throughout the depth of the cubic meter, then use those numbers and the % estimates you gave to find a possible weight.

Yeah, I think an engineer would end up having soil samples taken. They'd take a core all the way to the depth needed and then weigh it.

Outta curiosity, why?
And it greatly depends on the moisture content of the soil. Clay soils expand with moisture which will partially dictate the weight per cubic meter.
