I here a lot about people out there waiting for new MBP's with new processors.
I jest found this disturbing article on Wikipedia
I hope this doesn't happen or hurt Apple
(P.S. I know Apple doesn't announce products pre-maturely)

Historically this has happened right before every product launch and Apple has never died.

This is common in the tech industry. If anything with the intel switch people will have a better idea of what to expect and simply decide to wait till that point that they're happy. For example I'm thinking I'll go with a nice white MacBook as soon as they have the Core 2 Duos in them.

If it were ever applicable, the Osborne Effect applied to Apple much more when it would formerly delay major hardware releases in order to have a lot to announce at the major expos. Customers began to delay purchasing new equipment based on the rumors and anticipation surrounding Macworld San Fran and New York, which meant that many would hold of purchasing for six months (if not longer) to see what the next Macworld would bring. That's why Apple switched to an "announce when ready" model for most products. But even when Apple held products back for expos, it really didn't seem to impact the company's bottom line financial performance all that much.
