They should have kept selling the iPod.

At any rate I don't think this is "good" as competition is better.

Dell was never any competition.

Yeah, competition is great. I hope this Zune thing is pretty cool and gives Apple a reason to really be aggressive.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I thought it was HP, not Dell, that sold the iPods?

Dell was in the MP3 player market? </obvious joke>

What the competitors always forget when they try to bring the next "iPod Killer" to market is that it's not just the well designed and highly functional hardware that makes the iPod special.

Apple offers the combination of hardware and software (iTunes/iTMS) to make the iPod a superior product.

HP sold a rebranded iPod. Dell was just another reseller of iPods.

I agree. Also, SanDisk has released an iPod Nano competitor that has 8GB and is the same price as the 4GB iPod Nano.

Strupat, I think your signature picture may be just a little bit bigger than 200x50 pixels. I might be wrong on that though, so don't shoot me .

Oh and if Zune is anything like Vista, it will be here in 2010 and MP3 support will get dropped for it to make the launch in time.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

I knew someone at school who had a Dell Juke, he saw my me showing off my new iPod to some of my lady friends, and he entered the conversation and tried to justify his purchase... I don't get why people do that. I mean nobody made fun of you for having something different... we might have thought... poor guy with the rock in his pocket but...
He said something about how his couldn't make play lists... I just think he couldn't figure it out.

My boss bought a Dell and says he should have spent the extra money to get an iPod. I said, "I told you so."

In iPod's special case — they really went out there and created something special. At the time, existing players from Diamond, Creative and Archos were ugly, big, hard to use, or just very low quality. Apple went out of their way to make this thing work. When it came out, most mac users were not even that in love with it. So IMO, the only 2 companies that really care about mp3 players are Apple and Creative — Creative is obviously a sub par company so it's great Apple has dominated.

I am interested in the Zune to see how MS will solve the same problems Apple had to solve.

For some of us, the hatred of Dell goes much further. Back in the dark days of Apple... they basically said that Apple should close shop... that Apple was no longer significant...

"What would I do? I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders," Michael Dell said before a crowd of several thousand IT executives.

I know someone who's designing all the kiosks for the MS mp3 player. She says it really doesn't look all that impressive though.

The only thing the Zune is going is competing with everything but the iPod. They are pretty much going to do what the Mac Clones did.... not bring any new PC users and just take sales away from Apple to go to the clones.

The zune doesn't even handle plays for sure so it is going to be.. Ipod, Zune and everyone else. Zune will only steal sales from the "everyone else" category which is going to piss them off royally.
