Before reading the article, I was going to make a crack about the black guy being rather lonely. (They usually only have one or two token black people.)

But after reading the article, I've realized that I'm really, really, not interested in watching that. Just what shouldn't be happening is identifying people by their skin color.

You're comparing apples with oranges. In an Olympic setting, as you're rightly pointing out, there will be racial segregation but purely by virtue that certain races make up the vast majority of the population of certain countries. Countries like the US, that are made up from a racially mixed population, will have an Olympic team reflecting that mix.

There is no artificial segregation, as introduced by Survivor.

Survivor is just trying to dig themselves out of being insignificant. I didn't even know they were still on the air.

IMHO, they screwed up the whole concept. They should have had radically different environments. The second season should have been somewhere in syberia, and the 3rd season should have been on a mountain at high altitude.

Also, they should have mixed the game up more than they did.

The picture in that article didn't look very diverse. Are they gonna have a group of about 7 white people, 2 black people, and a couple of hispanics? How will that work out?

Really? They're consitently one of the top rated shows, but just because YOU don't watch it doesn't mean it's insignificant. I never watched an episode of ER but that doesn't mean the show's insignificant.

That's true, but then you couldn't have women wearing skimpy clothes all the time, which I'm sure doesn't hurt ratings, although the woman aren't always the most attractive...

You can't have girls in skimpy outfits in the artic. Believe me, I agree with you, but they are stuck on having "sexy" outfits.

Not that anyone in their right mind could find someone who hasn't showered in 39 days attractive.

Season 2 (Australia) was the best season, I thought. The ones since Africa have all been too similar, though. I've always thought Survivor: Antarctica would be awesome, though.

Its a tad bit different to split up teams based on sex and/or age, or splitting them up based on skin color. This isn't a matter of being uptight or not. Its a matter of whether or not you want to perpetuate the still very delicate issue of race relations in the U.S. Just because we abolished slavery after the Civil War doesn't mean our race relations are what they should be. We still have a long way to go to becoming fully racially equal in this country.

Call me uptight if that makes you feel better about condoning this sort of concept for a crappy T.V. show. But reinforcing racial segregation (which is exactly what this is) isn't OK with me. They are doing it purely for the controversial nature, and to get ratings because of it. Its despicable.

But you gotta hand it to the moron producers of that show. They came up with this concept (which any child could think up) purely to spark discussions such as this. So now everyone's talking about it, and the show will get ratings. Kudos, you racist sons-a-b!tches.
