Amoebas usually reproduce asexually, but during times when there is little food available, researchers have found that the social amoeba species known as Dictyostelium purpureum aggregates in large numbers. Some turn into spores while others form a stalk structure to disperse the spores. Amoebas that become part of the stalk do not get to pass along their own genes to future generations, but assist in propagating the genes of the amoebas that form spores.

I'm sure somebody will turn this thread into a gay-Christian flamewar.

I posted before it happened

This reminds me of a thought: what if somewhere along the evolutionary track there was a split to three or more genders? In essence, that's what these little guys become, right?

Gays normally reproduce asexually except when there is little food and then they reproduce more?

Or were you talking about Christians?

The title of this thread is very misleading. This is a simple case of kin selection. This is more akin to sacrificing yourself for a large number of your twins, not members of your species.

One could argue that joining the infantry has a fairly similar evolutionary function.

Yes, but one would lose that argument.

I abhor the implication that the Royal Navy has become a haven for cannibalism. There is none. And by none, I mean some.

So... ...Blind or illiterate then. Which is it?

My position has never been "God hates fags". It's "God hates the way Salty thinks he's the second coming"*.

Nothing to forgive. Salty ain't offended me and I hold no grudge against him. But I ain't gonna sit back and let him twist scripture and delude himself (and anyone else in earshot who's stupid enough to think he knows what he's talking about).

It stopped being your thread when Salty hijacked it for his daily whine.

Well personally I think what he says is crap also but I don't care enough about his opinion to argue with him for 2 pages.

Since you'll never convince him of anything I suggest you just let him prattle on and nobody will care.
