I'm sorry to say that most people will think it's a Slavic name... But it's cool for those of us who understand it!

How much does California charge for vanity plates? Texas vanity plates cost $40 over the normal annual registration fee.

the plate was $41. I could have had a background image and that would of been between $50-$60, but they limit the lettering on a couple of them to less then I needed. MUSISKE looks kind of like the word music in a foreign language to me as well so that's another plus. people can read it both ways

I bet my balls that there is some Japanese tale about Musiske (Mushisuke?) and... let's say... Michiko.

Y no entienden nada... ¡y cómo se divierten!...

So you mean to say that personalised number plate cost you $41?

And in the USA, can you basically design your own plate, ie if no one else has it, you can have it say what you like?

In the UK, you have to search hard to find a decent private plate, you can't just make one up. And when you do find one, they cost a fortune! My dad found one that was '750 JH', and it was over £10,000!.. and the '750 doesnt even mean anythin!

They've been doing personalized plate numbers a lot longer in the UK than in most U.S. states, at least from what I've read.

Didn't you have to assemble your own number plate for a long time?

Yep, personal plates is expensive here as well. Around €600. And you HAVE to choose a 3 letter - 3 digit combination. Or a 2 letter 3 digit combination (these are even more expensive (around 700).

They haven't been 'doing' personalised plates at all.

Personalised plates in the UK are actually just really old number plates. For example, 'x' number of years ago, standard number plates would have been along the lines of '4 JH', or '43 JH' etc etc, and they changed over time.

The older the numberplate, the more expensive it is. Using my example, a number plate like '4 JH' could be as expensive as £100,000, or even more. The number plate 'F1' recently sold for about £500,000.

My plates are coming up due pretty soon. I still have "WEBDAV" which is appropriate because of my name (Dave) and occupation (web designer.)

I always like the "insider joke" ones that I can get. For instance, I saw a bright orange Xterra with "FF6600" on the plate. I laughed. Nobody else got it.

Someone I used to work with had "CMYK" and lamely, my ex-boss has it now. (He knew the person that had it, so it shows no creativity to get it now.)

For my next one, I'm thinking about:

"K E R N"

Designers/type geeks should get it.

I like the street racer plates like WVMVWVM or something. Or I11I1I1I or 0O00O0O. **** like that, that makes it impossible for someoen to memorize your plate. I think that's kinda trick.

We got my dad a custom plate a few years ago, it was $25 over registration fee in Iowa.

We wanted 'Ruby' but it was taken.

No, we only kept that plate for a year or so. Unfortunately the customized plate, red car, and my driving earned it a reputation that got my dad flipped off more than once. So we got a generic plate after that. He traded it in a couple years back for something better for my sister. The 5 speed was fun, but it wasn't the best choice for her in the snow and ice.
