The first "Saw" was an interesting movie. Good character development and lots of suspense.
Never saw "Saw II" but will have to get it from NetFlix one day. Don't know much about it but I hope its similar to the first one (character-based, not simply bizarre gore).
This one, from that trailer, looks like a completely different type of movie. More like "Hostel" (which itself was fairly good).

I vote meh as well. Skipped 1 & 2. From listening to people who loved the films talk about 'em, they sound idiotic and horribly contrived. Imagine 3 is mots.

Saw II was actually very good. I HATE movie's that have senseless gore and violence, but this one is some how very different. I will be interested in seeing Saw III if it stay's with it's original theme. Hostel doesn't even compare. Hostel was simply a horrible movie. The Saw movies are horrible...but in a very good way.

I would call it a teaser. A teaser does not have to tell you a hint of the plot, just let you know the movie is coming.

A trailer trailer is one that is more in depth. Usually made when the movie is finished or near finished in production.

Saw and movies like it are pieces of trash.

I'll be the jerk here... I watched Saw I and enjoyed it [for those of you that say "ewww, you are so barbaric!... I say "it's just a movie"]. I thought two would be great... and it was simply awful.

I thought Hostel was interesting... but admittedly a flop. I thought the plot was solid, but ultimately wasn't executed very well. IMHO, I didn't find it all that gruesome.

hostel is a good movie to watch before heading on vacation; just like the opening of final destinatation before going on a plane.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out in 1974... do you consider that "violent crap?" IMHO, the studios hype these movies as "ultra violent" and the general public simply runs with it.

Damn, I absolutely LOVE these types of movies! It's intriguing disturbing in such an attractive way. Saw1 was very well done, Saw2 wasn't bad either.

As for Hostel, the first half was somewhat poorly done and didn't develop as much as I would of liked, but the 2nd half somewhat compensated for it. Not a particularly good film, but quite enjoyable, i liked it. But Quient's The Descent I thought was one of his better works. If you liked these films, go watch Descent, it's pretty good!

Hostel is actually a very interesting movie. It probably say more about the human condition and whats wrong with the world than any film that came out in the past year. How many people out there would pay to kill an American? Or a Brit? Or just some random person? How much would people to do if they could get away with it? For a horror film it was hind of meh, but as a movie about the evils of the humid spirt, it was good.

The second half is a wank festival for disturbed gothic teenagers as it shows pretty woman get tortured.

I still don't understand why people confuse goar with "fright" but if prosthetic eyeballs and ketchup for blood "scare" you then go nuts.

The last true scary movie I saw was the Decent. You could have taken the monsters totally out of that movie and I would have been just as scared because of the setting.

I agree with some of what you say... the initial drug/sex talk diluted the characters, ultimately causing you to not care so much when they are killed off. I think if they would have had the first half a bit more like Eurotrip, regarding the character development, it would have been better.

The second half was interesting. No, the prosthetic eyeball wasn't all that scary, it's the situation the people were in. The human nature element is what I found interesting...

Saw 1 & II were some of the best modern horror films. In fact, I had essentially written off the genre until these movies came out and actually made it interesting again. I bought into the "Hostel is better than Saw" hype and rented it on DVD. Suffice it to say that I was not impressed. I will likely go see Saw III at the show, but I'm not overly excited about it. After a while you run out of story to tell and the sequels become just a mindless gore-fest. Hopefully that won't be the case here.

I kinda liked the first Saw for what it was. Wasn't great moving making but the ending suprised me. Saw 2 was kinda stupid, think I saw Hostel but don't remember - which should say something about my opinion of the film.

Se7en is a masterpiece, Descent was god-awful (except for the first 30 minutes or so).

I don't find a movie disturbing just because of gore. A generous mix of great acting and great mood-setting trump blood n' gore anyday.

The Descent was a creature movie with nothing but "jump out and scare ya" once the creatures were introduced 'yawn' how cliché.

Hostel was a cool idea executed by a ham-fisted hack of a director. Saw was pretty cool, haven't seen 2, but I'd imagine it's more of the same.

Seriously though, Se7en is in the ballpark of The Shining and Texas Chainsaw as one of the best 'horror' movies to be made.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I like movies like that, it shows balls that someone can put images and thoughts like that on the screen. Just my opinion.

The only movies that really scare me are:

The Six sense (at the time, it is sorta wimpy now).

The Others: I can see how people would think I am nuts but the thing that scares me is watching it in surround sound. Every time a ghost incident happens you get this growl from just one of the rear speakers and my sister and I almost vomited because we thought someone was behind us. Same goes when you hear the "guests" running around upstairs. With the right setup it really sounds like someone is above you. The setting is also eerie.

The Decent: As I mentioned not because of the monsters but because of the claustrophobic setting. I actually found myself less scared in the monster scenes as it distracted me from the fact that they were trapped underground.

The Exorcist and The exorcism of Emily Rose. I just get creeped out when weird **** happens when you are alone in bed as I had sleep paralyses a couple times and it was similar to some scenes in the movie. Well that or I got possessed.

Jacobs Ladder: A couple freaky parts but pretty dry otherwise.

When I was 10 I saw Nightmare on Elm street at a friends house and I didn't sleep more than a couple hours a night for 5 days. It got so bad I couldn't go to school for a few days as I was sleep deprived

Anything with elaberate CG monsters/Ghosts instantly makes it lame like the 1999 The Haunting or just gore like Texass chainsaw remake, Hostel, Friday the 13th is also crap.
