Alright, I've a Macbook in the pipeline from the Apple Store. The tracking page says that the estimated delivery date is Tuesday, but the package is already in the same city that I live in. Here are a few factoids about the whole order thing:

- Fedex is handling the shipping.
- I ordered the Macbook late Thursday night. It shipped out early Friday morning.
- I noticed that the package arrived early Saturday morning in Seattle.
- The delivery estimate still says August 29th.

So... with that said, will Fedex deliver on Monday since the package is already here in Seattle?

You may well get the computer before Apple says you will. But watch the FedEx tracking site because once it's in the U.S. (especially if you're in Seattle!) it'll get to you FAST.

My wife's iBook was actually delivered BEFORE Apple's online order tracking said it would ship! Aside from the dateline issue with FedEx tracking (it's coming from the other side of the international dateline so some of the stops along the way look like they happened tomorrow), it was fun to watch it meander from (this was 2004) Taiwan through Seattle to Memphis, then Houston and to San Antonio.

The Macbook is coming straight from California (got a refurb machine)... I'm hoping it'll still arrive before the Fedex estimated shipping date?

Not FedEx's date. They have things down to a science in their system-very few things are delivered before their estimated date.

Also, if you paid for something like "Second day shipping" and Tuesday is the second day, they probably won't deliver it Monday even if their depot is next door to you-that's not the service that was paid for. Besides, Seattle is not a small town-there are probably a couple of different FedEx locations in town, so while the computer's in the city limits, that doesn't mean it's at the station that services where you live.

I could be wrong-they might have managed to put your computer on the wrong truck (or the right one from your point of view), but don't count on it.

Not FedEx's date.
NOOOOOOOOEEEEESSSS

I'm HOPING that they end up throwing it on a wrong truck. But yeah. This blows. I ended up playing Super Metroid this weekend because I remember it being a good and long game for me to hold me over until the Macbook arrives on Monday/Tuesday. Unfortunately, I've already beat it. Now I'm cutting myself.

You better hope they didn't use "Home Delivery". If so, you better be home to receive it. FedEx sucks.

In general, UPS comes out as the main sucker.

Except that if you decide once to have your package left in front of your house and tell them then they assume you want that all the time..... for whatever package. The 'signature required' is a joke. And yeah sometimes they WILL deliver ahead of their own schedule.

In my area, FedEx usually delivers Express Saver (their 3-day service) packages a day early if they have arrived. The other services just sit there until they are supposed to (except for once, when I was in such a hurry, I called them and had them hold the package and went and picked it up a day early myself).

However, since it is now Monday, if you check the tracking info and it says "On FedEx vehicle for delivery," that means it has a 95% chance of coming today. Otherwise, it has a 99.9999% chance of not coming until tomorrow.

FedEx most definitely does not suck. They deliver on time, and without damaging things.

UPS, on the other hand, obviously wear brown uniforms to cover the fact that they roll your package through dirt in the warehouses. Every package is dirty when we get it. And it's usually damaged - one corner dented in is minor. A whole side is pretty bad.

My wife gets UPS deliveries nearly every day. The stuff inside is damaged about 25% of the time. That's not a great track record. But since the company she works with has a contract, she has to still ship UPS.
