Okay, so we were sitting around watching the Weather Channel and the local news outlets last night for updates on "hurricane" Ernesto.

As the night wore on and we watched these channels and Ernesto didn't materialize, at least not the way the "weather experts" predicted, we began to crack a lot of jokes.

These guys are parodies of themselves.

What is it with the ubiquitous "weatherman windbreaker?" They all wear these windbreakers for some reason. I think it's because they flap better in the wind?

What is it with insisting on standing near the beach or traffic signs? Is it so that we can see the wave and wind action?

So, last night we're watching one guy deliver the storm info and he's zipped up in his blue windbreaker - even has the hood up - and there is no rain, barely any wind, nothing. Yet this guy is insisting on how people need to board up their homes, stay inside, etc. Right behind, though, is a guy who rides by on a bicycle and makes the V-peace sign behind this guy's head.

Obviously, it's nice enough for this guy to be out bicycling, you know? Next comes a convertible with the top down behind him.

Then he announces in his too-serious weatherman voice, "And now we're going to cut to John down in the heart of the storm."

Next you see his colleague, John, who is standing there in nothing but a black tee-shirt and he announces in a friendly voice, "Hi Jim! Well, here I am and as you can see, this storm is not that bad. I've even taken off my windbreaker." At least John, "in the heart of the storm," isn't sweating it out in a windbreaker and pretending that the storm is something it's not the way the first guy, Jim, was.

The juxtaposition of the first weatherman with his "pretending to be in a dangerous storm" attitude and the second weatherman with reality - that there was no storm, no rain, and no wind - was hilarious.

Does anyone else find these weatherman newscasts as funny as we do? We started calling the Weather Channel the Comedy Channel instead. "Hey, turn on the comedy channel for the latest update on Ernesto."

All of us down here and scratching our heads and wondering why we even bothered with hurricane shutters and boarding up our houses with plywood, to be honest.

It's just as stupid as most TV news, where they'll have a reporter stand on a street corner where something happened hours before (but now nothing is happening). Like, wow, I'm really glad you were on the scene to catch that light turning red, ace.

I mean, just bc at that exact time the wind wasnt blowing hard doesn't mean that in an hour it won't be nuts. If he genuinely thought that there was concern and you should board up, then let him say it. We've seen in this country that people have very little forgiveness for people that screw up big calls like that. If he tells you to board up and nothing happens, no one cares. If he says eh you'll all be fine, and a big storm hits, he's screwed.

And who can forget Anderson Cooper's potted plant? I don't remember which storm it was, but last year he was standing on some balcony somewhere when the huge potted plant blew over. Story of the year!
He can be fixed -- you can't.

I remember that, finboy.

And who can forget Shepard Smith, who stood in the winds and water of hurricane Katrina for, like, 24 hours in a row.

Now that was some weather reporting - all of the others are cream puffs.
