I've never been a huge CRV fan and this new model reminds me of the Chrysler Pacifica.

It's odd looking, maybe it will grow on me. I'm really impressed Toyota was able to fit a 3.5 liter 269 horse power V6 into the RAV4. Why can't Honda do the same?

Fugly. My wife has a CR-V and it's a pretty nice looking car. This looks like crap. It looks like a Saturn.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Fugly. Just like the old one. Well the old one wasn't really ugly but just really weird looking.

Because the '06 RAV4 is 6.7 inches longer in wheelbase, 14.5 inches longer overall, and 3.2 inches wider than the one it replaced. It's approaching Honda Pilot in size.

The RAV4 and CR-V aren't really direct competitors anymore.

I think it looks pretty nice. It would be killer if they made an Si version I have never really liked smaller SUVs, but this one looks good. You can't go wrong with Honda reliability also.

'06 RAV4 vs. '06 CR-V
Length: 181.1"/181"
Width: 71.5"/70.2"
Height: 66.3"/66.2"

Yes the RAV4 did grow considerably from previous generations but now it's just as big as the current CR-V.

Is that Vancouver, BC in the background of some of those pics?

And someone mentioned the CR-V looks like a Saturn. It's funny because I was remarking to my girlfriend (whose first car was a Saturn) that the new Honda Civics look like Saturns. Shifting design ethos at Honda?

Looks like a cross between the Pacifica and the Lexus RX330... but cheaper and uglier.

Sure. I thought about it. Picked up a RAV4 Sport V6 last week. Nothing I've seen yet would make me change my mind.

Both are nice. Honda people will by the CR-V, Toyota people will buy the RAV4. We live in a divided world.

Well I've alway been a Honda person. I am driving an '03 Element right now but I am considering trading it in for a RAV4. I like the fact that it has more cargo room, an awesome V6 and gets better gas mileage than the 4 cyclinder in my Element. The only thing I dislike about the RAV4 is the rear door. It swings open the wrong way but in most situations it shouldn't be an issue. I would have preferred it had a hatch.

It's a station wagon with high ground clearance. REALLY. We have a 2000 CR-V and that's all it is-to us or by design.

I don't think an Si version would be as good as a hybrid version, myself. We're sort of waiting for that before we buy a new one.

At Official: 2007 Honda CR-V revealed | Leftlane News - Car News For Enthusiasts they have the first official images of the CR-V now. I really like the interior, looks pretty cool. I am starting to like the new CR-V a lot, it looks pretty classy. They need to dress up the back a little with a chrome exhaust tip or something though.

For the love, why can't any decent mileage vehicle tow 3000 pounds?

Nah, a small diesel fueled SUV should be able to.
Or, wait till diesel hybrids come out. THAT's gonna give you the best of both worlds.

Not that I know of.

The problem is that the gas price is not high enough to make the big SUV makers really change. Their attempts are still half-assed. It'll be a minute, and not until gas prices go up even more.

The 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid hets 23 mpg average, that;s about the best right now.

Hybrid and Diesel SUV Roundup

Oh, and here a nice prototype of a diesel-hybrid SUV. 35 mpg, baby !

Car looks so so. The back looks like a Volvo. I do like the gauges a lot, which was the one of the main selling points for me when I bought my 2005 Civic believe it or not. I just could not stand having such plain looking gauges or red gauges like ever other car!

2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Not the cheapest choice, but you'll get more than 22 mpg.
I doubt it would ever pay off though...

Why can't Honda build *real* SUVs and pickups?

Toyota certainly has no problem doing it.

The RAV4 has a younger market , while the Highlander appeals to older folks who don't fly around town, that would be my guess.
