Anyone else think that they were lame?

Timberlake's opening number was cool, but then he was so uncool when he went on to do that lame skit on installing shelves into Jack Black's dressing room in a robe and slippers. "Yo, Justin: Not sexy(back)."

The funniest part of the night was Sarah Silverman making fun of Paris Hilton near the end.

Nothing else was very memorable, I don't think.

i totally agree.. what is up with the so-called "rock" EMO bands beating the true rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers? if you seriously think AFI or Panic at the Disco are rock then the world should be ashamed.

Ok, so why say they blow? Blood Sugar is probably my favorite album. Stadium Arcadium is up there also mainly because frusciante is at his best right now.

Because they haven't produced anything worth listening to in 10 years.

I also dislike RHCP. The song-writing is awful, and many of their singles sound the same.

I used to be excited for the VMA's, 2000 and pre-2000. Mainstream music was better then than it is now.

Yeah, when Pink came out with Lou Reed to present the award the group that won - sorry can't remember the name - they tried to approach Reed and he took a huge step backward and his body language and expression was, "Don't freakin' touch me." I think that was during the award when I wanted Red Hot Chili Peppers to win and they didn't. The group that won doesn't even compare to the Peppers.

MTV is dead to me.

Also, I love how some "musicians" (especially the ones that haven't put anything out in over 5+ years) still consider themselves significant.

I also get very upset when I see performers with TWO albums... and their third is a "best of" CD! Also, selling a bunch of "live" concerts doesn't constitute progression in a music career.

Yes, I find that hilarious as well. You should have a minimum of 5 CDs before you even consider that. You should have existed for 10 years before you consider that.

IMHO, Pearl Jam is still a band that I consider "one of the greats" [even if they haven't made any super hits in the past 6+ years], yet you don't see them pandering to MTV.

Perhaps it's the musician/"wanna-be celebrity" that upsets me.

P.S. I was very happy to see Paris Hilton's record flop. It breathed a breath of hope in me regarding consumers in general.

AFI and Panic at the Disco are rock. Whether they are good rock is another question, but I don't see any separate genre they'd fit into better.

I caught a little bit of it at my sister's last night. I don't know when they even play the videos that they showed during the Awards show. We got MTV on our cable system in 1983 (2 years after it came out). I was 14 then, and for better or worse, part of the MTV generation. Ever since the early '90s, it's been the Real World and other non music programming. MTV2 came out and actually played videos, but they do that either. VH1 doesn't play videos. Where and when the hell are people watching videos? I guess there are some other video channels out there, but not on my system.

OK GO had a lame-ass treadmill skit/show where they jumped back and forth and up and down on freaking treadmills.

They looked like they were auditioning for America's Got Talent or something...the only thing their act was missing was juggling chainsaws.

none for OK GO i dont think, but they did perform the video i linked to earlier this week (treadmill dance) which was the only tolerable part of the show for me.

show was filled with terrible jokes, jack black pretty much sucked, the raconteurs on the side stage were awesome but thats because jack white is awesome, and we as a whole are forgetting that mtv no long plays music videos...this shouldnt be called the "VMA's"...does mtv still play music videos anymore?

pretty pretty pretty sad...i got reminded why ive avoided this award show for the last three years. i figured having the raconteurs jam and jack black as host would be cool but boy was i wrong and the worst part is i watched the whole thing. i feel violated.

Oh, and then the show proved that reverse racism was alive and well, also; Kanye West got up to announce a special award for Hype Williams who's directed all of the top videos. He actually made it a point to say that if you want a good video and you're black then Hype is the guy to get. West has made other racist comments before so this didn't surprise me, but what an @ss to say it again.

Kanye West is proof that being a successful songwriter doesn't mean you don't otherwise fail at life.

I like Jack Black. He's a smart and funny guy, and I don't blame him for not being able to rescue that steaming heap of an awards show. Nobody else could have done it either.

*Nevermind*

I thought the show sucked also, The VMA is the only time now that MTV is half assed about music nowaday's.
