I'm just wondering... I spent years in New England with no mosquito truck, yet now that I'm back in Georgia, I have the lovely sound of the truck at 5 AM. Scary if you don't know what it is...
How many states/countries do this? Is it a Southern US thing?

Ours runs in the summer when the season is bad, usually June to August. He also runs twice a day because we get mosquitos so thick down here, they'll carry you away.

They do it occasionally in smaller Iowa towns, not in the ~50,000 people town now.

I was kidding.
Remember several years ago there was a saying.."it's a black thing..you wouldn't understand"?
yeah well.
But seriously, I've only witnessed the mosquito trucks in Lousiana, Mississippi and Alabama. No sign of 'em in Kentucky or Tennessee.
In retrospect, there may be some links between mosquito spray and highschool achievement test scores. I'm of the opinion that it's a conspiracy by Yankees to keep the south stupid - so we won't kick their asses, like we ought to. Most of the trucks have New Jersey license plates - if you pay attention. I'm sure some folks will claim they've seen mosquito trucks in New Jersey - well, duh, that's where they refill the tanks with 'stupid spray'.

I SO missed that. I felt there was a joke, but...
I was just wondering bout the trucks. When I was a kid, I remember waking to them. And last night I heard the bad boy for the 1st time in 10yrs.. imagine if I was not accustomed to it, I would be scared.
I have to say, not a bug out tonight, and I got eaten up last week.

They spray anywhere where there is evidence of mosquito-borne diseases, especially west nile virus. When (not if, when) it spreads to New England, they will start spraying there too.

Here we have no mosquito truck and no mosquitoes. That should tell you a lot. If you want to get rid of the mosquitoes in your area, simply petition your local authorities to stop sending the mosquito truck around.

There seems to be a repeated pattern wtih things like this. It starts out with a new product that does X. X gets used for a number of years while we're told it's perfectly safe. After a bit, studies start coming out saying that X is really not good for people. A new product, Y, comes out and they say it's safe for us. Process repeats.

Actually New England does (or at least did) have mosquito trucks, I remember growing up during the summer I'd hear the mosquito truck driving around early in the morning.

I've never heard of a mosquito truck, but I do know they sprayed in some areas up here to control mosquitos and west nile. People were told to keep pets and kids inside while the spraying was in process.

Didn't they think the same about tons of chemicals in the past that are now proven to show serious side effects ?

I've never heard of a "mosquito truck", but I'm guessing from what's above that they use the truck to spray for mosquitos. Here (central NY) the spray by air over the swampy areas. As a matter of fact I saw on the news they were doing it over a couple of local swamps after finding skeeters with west nile and Triple E. Vile little buggies carrying even viler, littler buggies. So yeah, we have mosquito planes, but I'm guessing the fog sucks just as bad.

We spray with a plane here in Central New York. Our County Health Departments (multiple local counties) monitor our mosquito populations for disease such as EEE and West Nile. A neighboring county just sprayed swamp areas about a week ago due to confirmed EEE carrying mosquitos in their traps.

My father lives at a place called Mosquito Point, near Port Byron. As the name implies, the place is stock full of 'em. The plane doesn't come by too often, but it's a necessity.

The mosquito control trucks used to drive up and down the streets in my town (Southeastern, Mass) during the summer, but they stopped it a long time ago. Now, 3 people have come down with EEE, a 9 year old boy just died from it a few days ago. They were supposed to do aerial spraying a couple weeks back (nothing like waiting until the summer is over), but I don't know if the weather allowed it.
Fortunately for the environmentalist crowd, the mosquitos are alive and kicking, and the people are dying, I hope they're happy.

I've heard of that place. It's not a name that has inspired any great desire to visit. They should have named it "Point Pleasant" or something and let the mosquitos be a surprise.

If he really got cancer from it, I'm sure he knew by know. Except if "being a kid" was just some few years ago, which I doubt.

Also a 22 year old male Derek Ashworth whom was in my grade in H.S. has contracted it.
He came out of a coma last week and is doing 1000 times better than anyone could have hoped.
It was a real rainy spring this year so that = lots O' mosquitos, they have been doing aerial spraying in my area for the pat couple of weeks, but it seems pointless since the season is all but done.
