Okay, so I'm thinking about getting Apple Pro Cerified, and it's gonna set my folks back quite a bit, so I want to be sure it is absolutely worth it.
First of all, Shake or FCP? Editing is not really my cup of tea, although I definately know how to do it. Color correction, roto, compositing, keying, etc is my passion, so Shake would be more rewarding intrisically. But at the same time, I know that Shake will be phased out by the time I graduate, and that there are probably less openings for compositing work than editing work. On the flipside, once again, I'm sure all the stuff I learn in Shake would be useful in whatever app Apple comes out with (supposedly) in 2007.
The other thing is, how much will employers care? I mean, I'll only be able to get Level 1 certified for the timebeing. How much does that really stand for? I'll be looking to get a job this summer, and I know that kids fresh outta high school generally won't get that great of a job (and understandably so), but will the Level 1 certification help me get at least a little bit better of a job?
Since I have had no previous REAL jobs, my portfolio is sparse at best. Most of my work has been in logo design and whatnot, but then thats not my passion, and I've been making them as vectors in Photoshop, which is definately not the tool of choice... so that doesnt really count for much. I also have some 3D work I did for school, but meh. The posters I did for some video stuff at school, I think, would impress many, but since the thing was so informal, I don't have releases from people depicted in the posters... so I really can't use that.
Ya see where I'm headed? I need something to put me ahead, just a little, so that I can be taken seriously and not as a joke. Will being a Level 1 Certified Pro do this, at all??
thanks in advance,
