In highschool, I dressed as an Arab dude and carried a quart of motor oil - and everybody loved the costume. That was like 1978-ish...when you were free to express your opinions. Hell, I could have dressed as a gay, African-American Arab. Sigh, those were the days.

I agree, that is not funny. You've got to be more clever than that. Go as:

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what to do as well. I'm going to have a hard time beating last year, when I went as Ed Norton from Fight Club.

I like this idea. I may use it.

Edit: I may need a month's head start on the scruff.

Be a nazi. They had some pretty hot uniforms back in the day. To be on the safe side, cover the swastika with the gerber baby or something equally random and idiotic.

Costumes taken from the Carnival of Venice. You can find some examples on the internet.

last year I found myself in a pair of boxers and trash bag. that's it. but thats not what my costume started as, in fact, i think it started as just jeans and a t-shirt and alcohol in hand.

Step 1.

Get a few of your friends, go to the Army-Navy Surplus store near you, buy green fatigues for each of you. Don't forget the boots!

Step 2.

Go to a store and buy facepaint that is the green to match. Also pick up a board about 2 feet long and some matching green spray paint.

Step 3.

Make a fake bazooka, M-16, metal detector, and anything else you can think of.

Step 4.

Spray your boots and the boards green, then attach the boots to the boards. Spray your fake weapons as well.

Step 5.

Apply green facepaint to your faces, hands, and any other part of you that isn't hidden by the uniform.

Step six.

Be Green Army Guys, learn the positions they are posed in, and watch Toy Story to learn how to walk.

Step seven.

Enter costume contests, and when you are in the spotlight, assume positions to match the plastic dopplegangers of yours. Win costume contests and generally look really cool.

Judge Fudge

You'll need something to approximate judges robes, a white shirt and black tie, a wig, fake (or real, whatever) cigarettes, and some kind of dark brown foam/canvas/box thing in a Gumby style to approximate the fudge.

I may try this myself.

How about Jon Benet's fake killer? All you need is a light blue polo buttoned to the top, old-man khakis pulled up to your belly and a pencil neck.
It looks just like a telefunken' U-47 - Zappa

eww...
A couple years back I saw some drunk guys dressed as a penis and two balls...they'd rub him for a while and stuff would squirt out the top, then everyone would cheer...it was so gross.

I've had two costumes which were pretty big hits, but both require that you go with more than one person to the party.

Costume 1, requires 2 people:

Obtain:
two pairs of denim overalls
a red shirt
a green shirt
a blank red hat and a blank green hat from a supply store
two plungers from the hardware store

Put little M and L logos on the hats, apply fake mustaches, and you've got Mario and Luigi!

Costume 2, requires 3 people:

We put together some basic, homemade Animaniacs costumes from clothing we had laying around and used fabric and clothes hangers for the ears and tails. A little face paint and some black tights and we were good to go!

Both were pretty big hits, but your milage will vary depending on the generation of the people going to the party.

Make an oversized milk carton out of cardboard.

Cut a hole out of it.

Wear it on your head, with your face in the rectangular hole you cut out.

Go as a missing child.
