Thanks, I clicked the specs link but got a 404.
Man, that's 10 more than the 17"
Definitely not 'mobile'
Edit: Though still way lighter than the G3 iMacs which were supposedly mobile...

Thats my question. Whats coming out on the 12th? iPod, Vid service?
Maybe Apple is trying to confuse us and knock us off the trail.

And here I was just thinking how cool it would be to get a Mini to go with my 24" Dell monitor to use as the 'TV' except that then I wouldn't be able to use it with my G5. Perhaps I should just get one of these instead.

I have a 24" Dell also, I think it would go nicely with a 24" iMac

Wait a second. I just went to configure one to see the price and according to the Apple Store, it maxes out at 3 GB RAM. Is that right? Only 3? Not 4?

Well yeah, but the whole point is that I want to keep using it for my PowerMac and my Gaming PC.
Ooh, I wonder if they're going to start making black ones like the iPod and MacBook. A black one would look so much better as a TV in the living room.

It is so weird that the chin is the same size. I would have thought they could reduce it quite a bit by tucking it behind that giant screen.

You'll find 24" isn't big at all for movies if you aren't sitting right in front of it. You'll also have to get some add ons to watch TV on it.

Sadly this is true. I use my 24" Dell for watching movies, but unless I'm actually at my desk in front of it it's definitely a bit small.

In all honesty its because I was either in college, or after I got out, I built my first surround sound system. I'm currently in the process of refurbishing my living room (new couch, media storage, and TV stand) and getting myself a 42" plasma will probably be my final move.
Edit: It is pretty funny that my 17" iMac challenges my TV...

$999? Way to go, Apple! Nice lineup.
Edit: Never mind, $999 one has integrated graphics and no Bluetooth. Lame.
So, ignoring that $999 one, awesome lineup!

So, do I have to buy an extra Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 adapter? Or does Apple include one in the box for Firewire 800 Macs?

Agreed. That low end model is simply distasteful. Integrated suck-o-matic graphics. Mhmm.

Faster iMacs released
To top it off, the high end iMac also features a FireWire 800 port in place of one of the regular 400mbps ports
The 24" has Firewire 400 and a 800. The others only have 400. No adapter in the box.

The $999 is for PC to Mac switchers (who don't know crap about Macs) and the education market.

It cheapens the product line, yeah. The crap-o-graphics Macs have a way worse resale value and way shorter practical lifespan.
Their sad little 'GPU' can't run many things already and won't run most things in the near future. The GMA950 is a crutch and not a proper GPU.
PC users are laughing and scratching themselves in the head over the availability of the GMA950 in Macs.
The price difference between a GMA950 and a real GPU is within 5$. The inclusion of that turd-o-gpu has nothing practical to do with the availability of a sub $1000 iMac. It's just a way to ensure that the low end iMac is crap and people spend a little more to gain a lot more. Apple wants to sell the 20" iMac. The low-end is just to entice people to take a look.
It's a classic bait and switch. If that doesn't work and people buy the low-end, then they end up with a mac. As opposed to a Mac.

The current iMac line is EXCELLENT, including having the low end GMA 950 model. <-- Perfect for my friend's parents. He was complaining before because the GMA 950 was only for education. Now they have this option too.

OK. I'll have to get a get adapter cable then.
P.S. There's no point in getting it from Apple.com anyway. They charge $$$ for a Belkin Firewire 800 <--> 400 cable. I'll get one elsewhere.
