Microsoft sets Vista prices, expands testing | CNET News.com
Then on Friday, Microsoft issued Release Candidate 1 of Windows Vista, a near-final test version of the operating system.
Pricing for full retail versions of the software will be Windows Vista Ultimate, $399; Windows Vista Business, $299; Windows Vista Home Premium, $239; and Windows Vista Home Basic, $199.
Upgrades from Windows XP are priced at Windows Vista Ultimate, $259; Windows Vista Business, $199; Windows Vista Home Premium, $159; and Windows Vista Home Basic, $99.
Given that kind of pricing for Windows Vista, which turned out to be a really lame release by MS - with horrible feature cuts, gigantic memory and hardware requirement just to run Aero interface - its time for Apple to deal the final strike to MS.
Release a free Wizard for PC program which will evaluate if your existing PC is OK for Mac OS X, then release OS X Tiger for Intel and AMD chipsets "migration version" for 69$ with possibility to upgrade to Leopard for 69$ (or less).
OS X migration version will support Intel 915, 965 and other modern chipsets as well as latest AMD chipsets. Comes with iWork, AppleWorks, iLife 2006, all necessary software.
Have 80% of the PC market.

They're actually using the term Ultimate? It sounds like something from a bad 80s video game.

So far the testers are saying RC1 is still buggy as hell and they think there should be another beta.

I think that was 90% of people are going to do as well. SP1 prob won't come for 8 months to a year after the ship date.
