Yea, basically i have to find 3 ads from a major company (i choose mac, why not have a lil fun with this project) from different eras or times. Are there any sites that have compiled all the printed ads from mac? I definatly want to include that 1986 ad.
Any other info would be appreciated as well!
thanks

I think you mean the "1984" ad.
That said, 1984 was a commercial. If you're interested in commercials, you should google "Apple Commercials." A quick search turned up great links:
Old Ads from Apple
Apple TV Ads
But you said you're interested in print ads.
This may be just my opinion, but Apple may be better known for its tv commercials than for its print advertisements, with the notable exception of the "Think Different" campaign.

thanks everyone, i actually found a site shortly after posting that contains almost every apple ad from the 70s to late 90s. If anyone's interested i'll post a link.
As for now i have to write a thesis statement on these ads, would anyone mind if i posted this for others to critique? (mostly to check the info, however if anyone is a english or writing major feel free to correct my thesis statement as well)
thanks!

Throw in the SNL McIntosh Jr. ad, that's a fun one.

You may or may not know this about the 1984 ad.
Apple originally bought 2 spots in the Super Bowl. Chiat-Day was the agency who hired Ridley Scott.
The Apple excs did not approve of the ad presented to them. (Steve Jobs liked it. others did not.)
They quickly tried to sell the 2 spots, but could only sell one. Decided to take a chance on the 1984 spot while considering re-doing.
The ad ran.
It was voted the number one ad in history by Advertising Age.
This commercial MADE the Super Bowl THE place to advertise.
Also. When they tried to sell the spots, the news picked up on it and began running the commercial providing free publicity. Before the ad ran.

good info to know, however for this paper i have to focus more on textual ads (printed ads)
however... i just wrote this thesis statement, does it seem like a strong enough statment or position?
In these Macintosh advertisements marketers attract a particular audience by appealing to their senses through the use specific advertising tactics such as color and decoration, logos, information, and deception.

Another good Apple ad is the original "Here's to the Crazy Ones" one with Richard Dreyfus speaking. I keep a .jpg of it on my iDisk: Crazy Ones.

Your thesis statement is pretty vague. Thesis statements need to be argumentative or persuasive. You are, after all, trying take a position on a topic and advance it.
1. You talk about a particular audience, but what audience?
2. How are "color and decoration, logos, information, and deception" specific advertising tactics? These are rather broad categories without any description. You list these categories, but I'm failing to see how they connect or "appeal" to the "particular audience." (And again, what audience? And why would that audience be particularly susceptive to these tactics?)
Lastly, they're not "textual" ads. They're call "print" advertisements. I agree with the above poster, you need to narrow down your focus to particular "campaigns." I think you definitely should include the "Think Different" campaign in there.
