AOL's Guide To Just A Super Fun World-Class MRM Call - Consumerist

Doesn't surprise me too much. They're trying to find anyway they can to keep thier subscriptions up. I remember trying to cancel something years ago and going through a similar process.

every company has something like this. at times it can ensure quality customer service as well.

but yeah, aol never rolled with the spirit of the internet and now they're dying. TW should spin AOL off and sell it to the highest bidder.

a smaller company who has less assets and more maneurvability to innovate — and can turn it into something else. AOL's model is obviously not working but if somebody who had balls went in and changed the focus maybe it can be "saved".

or maybe a telcom who provides broadband nationwide takes it's subscription base over.

I don't understand people who get bills for four years after they cancelled. Wouldn't you recancel after the first bill? Why not just kill the credit card?

I had AOL way back in 1998. Had no trouble killing it, but I was served the same "you can use your account" crap. I never did. I was never billed. I guess times were better then.
