Just wondering... Do you think that album art iPod from some months ago with the Cubicle song was made with Core Animation?

Doubt so, they mentioned the difference between iPod ad and new one made in CoreAnimation by amount of code lines.

Steve mentioned in the keynote that it was not made with core animation, but the one he was showing was made with CA, and it was being rendered live and used a fraction of the code.

Cool. I'll have to check out the keynote.
How much overhead is there to Core Animation? Would they take the same horsepower to render?

In the New iMac thread it was brought up that Apples states that any computer capable of core image can do core animation.

Again, just because it can do CoreAnimation, doesn't mean it has the horse power to do the demo. Having been at the keynote, you could see even whatever machine Steve was using had some trouble during some sections of the demo. There were some dropped frames in some parts.

Just watched part of the keynote. Core Imagination seems very powerful, but I suspect not that many apps will require it for their core functionality, at least early on. OTOH, I think there will be a lot of Core Animation screensavers.

Wish I could talk about that but I can't.

Are you playing this "I know the secret stuff" even though every other WWDC attendee know the same thing?

Every WWDC attendee can't talk about things that were not talked about at the keynote. I can't talk about anything that was mentioned in the sessions, or anything in Leopard that did not come out of somebody's mouth during the keynote. If Apple said something about CoreAnimation at any time during WWDC besides the Keynote, or if in my copy of Leopard I've seen something in CoreAnimation, I can't talk about it.
Every other WWDC attendee probably knows a lot of the same stuff I do, but then again, they aren't supposed to be talking about it either.

You're not supposed to talk about having a copy a Leopard either. Don't expose the trade secrets!

What copy of Leopard?
Hey, Apple advertises that they're giving developers copies of Leopard... and I swear it was in the keynote too.
Honestly, all this NDA stuff makes it hard for developers to work on software for new releases of OS X. There is no support available for developers working on new versions of OS X because of all the security. I like Microsoft's approach to Vista testing much better, but I guess you have to play by the rules...

Indeed.
I see a lot of misconceptions over some of the things in Leopard, but being a good citizen I haven't said a thing. It is, however, frustrating when one sees these bloggers (with what has to be pirated copies of Leopard) posting screenshots, etc.
With Tiger, they let anyone get a prerelease copy for $90, or thereabouts (though this was in the RC stage wasn't it?). It will be nice if they do that again!

That's all good until people extrapolate alpha/beta stage performance to final release performance, then spam internet forums about it and have a huge predjudice against the final product.

Doesn't that happen anyway because the current beta builds are leaked anyway?

Most non-geeks I know don't give ch!t until the OS is released and installed on the new machine they're gonna buy.
This is purely a geek/developer discussion, and our alpha/beta opinions don't generally mirror end user sales numbers.

They programmed it from scratch, without Core Animation.
