An earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico has rattled parts of the southeast. At 10:56am Sunday morning, seismologists registered a 6.0 magnitude earthquake. The epicenter of the quake is located around 260 miles west southwest of Clearwater Beach, and 261 miles west southwest of Bradenton Beach. The depth of the quake is estimated just over 6-miles.The national earthquake center calls this a large quake. The Tsunami center says that the threat of a tsunami is not significant. It is unknown if there will be any after shocks. The coast gaurd is urging extreme caution to watercraft. The tremble from the quake has been felt throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama and in Louisianna.
First hurricanes. Now earthquakes. There goes the homeowners insurance!

No blizzards. That would cool things down and make it more comfortable.

For the record, there are earthquakes around all the time, just not quite this large. I remember the first earthquake I was in-I heard a sound like distant thunder, that was it. I was in Southeastern Michigan at the time, and it measured about 3.0...

And the Gulf isn't really built to support tsunami creation-it's too shallow all the way across.

By the way, isn't "USB HUB" another alter-ego of "C.A.T.S. CEO"?

I sure hope CATSCEO is not my alter ego. I think I need to change my sig to be more descriptive.

There was an earthquake back in February which measured 5.2 but they are occurring on a
"mid-plate", not the main plate. That was my concern. Is it a precursor for a major quake in the Midwest. It has happened before in Missouri. It changed the direction of the Mississippi and caused it to flow away from the Gulf.

This morning my wife and I were in bed and all of a sudden our house (we're on the 3rd floor so maybe we felt it more?) started shaking. More than enough to be *very* noticeable, but nothing violent in the way of pictures falling down, or duck and covering.

Neither of us had any idea of what it was, and an earth quake was the last thing on our mind. I thought someone had souped up a washing machine and it was going crazy. The only reason I thought was was because a friend of mine used to live in a house on stilts and when they turned on the washing machine the house would shake.

We saw a news report about the earthquake. Pretty crazy stuff.

I actually didn't feel it as I was driving to the store. The news was saying that NOAA stated that it had to be a minimum 6.5 to get any kind of tsunami wave. But there were warnings in the Gulf and local coastal areas to be aware of possible swells.
So now hurricanes, earthquakes and even snow. I was actually here the last time it snowed and what you would call a "hard frost" is what we got but it took a 15 minute drive to work 1 1/2 hours.

Yeah, another good reason to raise gas prices, after they were coming down. Now they can account for earthquakes too instead of just hurricanes.
