Yep, I've lost some. At least one whole album, and probably several singles I've bought from ITMS are nowhere to be found on my system. It's a PC running XP pro, and while I've had an issue or two with the machine, I have no reason to think that these songs got deleted, particularly since songs from before and after those particular downloads are there and just fine.

So, has anyone else misplaced songs? More particularly, has anyone else FOUND them hiding in some particular place, or under some odd assumed name? I'm hoping ITMS will come through for me, but their policy says otherwise, and I really don't want to spend the money again...

I've had iTunes "lose" songs (as in, actually gone from my hard drive, not just missing from the database), but that was way back in iTunes 2, at the latest.

I heard that some people got their songs replaced by iTunes on basis of amiability, but you shouldn't rely on it since their policy says otherwise.

ghporter,

I did lose quite a few songs, a few versions of iTunes ago. I run OS X 10.4.7 and I haven't had this issue for a loooong time. I do lose songs, because I cannot remember anything about them! I have 18 000 of those babies...

Have you tried searching your local disks for *.m4p?

No misplaced *.m4ps, nor *.m4vs, nor even any mp3s I didn't know about. They're just not there. And nothing in "Purchased Music" that hasn't already been downloaded, either.

There isn't even a folder with the first couple of characters of the group's name. I'll even confess that it is the self titled Starland Vocal Band album, which my wife loves (and I'm kinda fond of too). No folders starting with "st" anywhere. I was going to do an update on our iPod so she could have it for her lunch breaks when I discovered this...

The thing is I HAVE been backing up stuff, so the files must have slipped through the cracks somewhere. And I'm not at all banking on ITMS being "nice" to me-I'm looking for the album on CD as we speak. But I just have no idea how these files could have evaporated...

Yep, nothing there but what I expected... I was sort of hoping other people had wound up with a fluke-sort of mangled name that I could start looking for. You know, something like "my lost music wound up with Greek characters in the name and with a 4mp extension.." or something like that.

Do they play? Is so, they're still there. Select the song and choose "Show Song File" from the File menu.

That only works if their download is pending.

They do not play-just an exclamation point that says iTunes can't find the file.

The good news is that iTMS is being very nice to me and letting me download the stuff again. I'm going through to make sure I know everything that's not there before I hit the store again.

Customer care = excellent --> returning customer.

Very strange.. corruption does happen though. Very seldom, but it does happen. for iTMS customer service though.
