I've been bouncing between quite a few threads scattered around having to do with the computer's Apple's released and the audience they're targeting.
From a MacNNer's point of view, some of what Apple is doing just doesn't make sense. They don't have the middle-machine, their ads aren't appealing/are offensive, this or that...
My general argument is that, being who we are generally, we're too separated from the general computer using populace to be objective anymore.
But I'm curious what you guys all think. Do you think you're right about this stuff? or are our demands too high? Our expectations too much? Where do we fit into the general computerdom?

Huh ? Too many questions to answer with yes or no.
IMO, Apple doesn't have to target us, we're already addicted. We'll by anything as long as it has Steve's blessing.

To me Apple's ads are appealing because it makes stubborn PC users scratch their heads, plus the get a Mac ones are funny. Are we right? Of course. Are our demands to high? Of course. Are our expectations too high? Yes, most of the time. Where do we fit into computerdom? According to PC users: We are elitists who have to much money to spend on computers. To Mac users: We are the people who love, rather than enjoy, Macs. Many of us make our livings off of Macs. Most importantly is that Apple loves us and likes us to be pleased. Steve made us happy with MacBooks and Mac Pros and Mac minis, and he will make us even happier if they make the hidden prosumer Mac.

I agree. Computers have become so common with so many people using them that people who are reading computer forums aren't average computer users. That's why I'm skeptical about a prosumer mac, because most people don't ever upgrade hard drives, let alone video cards.
Looking around the forums here it appears that there is a huge demand for this machine, but I think MacNN is just a small tide pool bordering in the ocean of computer users.

Bingo! That's basically what we are. However we're also tasteful elitists who have too much money to spend on computers.
A tasteless elitist with too much money to spend on computers might buy Alienware or some crap.

I dunno. I don't have much money to spend on anything at the moment, and in fact the cries for a "prosumer" Mac are from those of us who either don't have the money, or are unwilling, to spend so much on an internally upgradable, headless Mac.
We are computer hobbyist. Some of us very technically knowledgeable, some of us less so, but all of us with a passion for good computing and great computing machines, which have that extra attention to detail, upon a rock solid base.
Before only computer hobbyist used computers. Now, almost everybody does, and that will continue to become more and more the case, because computers are becoming more and more needed and wanted for many common tasks die to their efficiency and usefulness.
So, yes, we are "elitists" when it comes to computers, but we are also the most knowledgeable people on this very topic, and frankly we know better of what the public does or will need than most other people. Remember, most people didn't ask for personal computers-- they were created first by more forward-thinking people who knew what the general populace wanted or needed before they did. They just voted with their purchases.

What is a middle-machine?
Anywho, I also hate the switch ads and I can't watch them anymore... they remind me of those stupid political debate ads where you just put the other guy down to make yourself look better.
