Okay well The Star Trek Of Gods And Men trailer is out and I dont understand this. if you slow down the video you see a constitution class vessel with the registry NCC-1701-M, obviously as you all know the newest enterprise is NCC-1701-E Commanded By Jean Luc Picard, in the trailer you see Captain John Harriman, captain of the Enterprise-B in command of the Enterprise-M, how could this be the NCC-1701-M when it is a constitution class vessel and this film is set right after Star Trek VI. and the death of Captain James Kirk who died saving the Enterprise B commanded by John Harriman

Chill.

The fanfic trailer clearly plays loose with continuity/canon.

If you're going to nitpick, then why does Chekov have greying hair in one scene and blackish hair in another. Why is there a Klingon with ridges on a TOS-era Constitution-class starship? Why is there a Seven of Nine clone? Why is Mirror Universe Ensign Kim there? Why is Tuvok there?

I just noticed some differences is all, and if you watch "Enterprise" the episode with the augments, it explains how klingons lost there ridges due to a virus, that is some of the klingons did, not all of them, the klingons that Kirk encountered in TOS were obviously the offspring of the klingons that lost there ridges. Some could have still existed and this movie takes place after Star trek VI where the klingons did have ridges. Looks like to be a hell of a show

Also heres some of the other fan films

Star Trek New Voyages
http://www.hiddenfrontier.org

hidden frontier is set after the dominion war with DS9 and takes place in the briar patch from star trek insurrection. And yes im a diehard trekkie

All I can say is that link is so funny and so wrong... And as far as kirk and spock goes in the new film.. James cawley plays a younger James T. Kirk and Jeffery Quinn plays a younger mr. spock. As you all should know the movie is set in the time period after the events in Star trek generations where James Kirk supposedly dies saving the Enterprise B commanded by captain john harriman

Wow, we're in a new era when a fan fic like that gets a few of the actors to sign on. Disturbing.

Ridiculous. These people have really lost the whole idea and vision behind Trek, much as Paramount has.

Hilarious. It made me a little bit uncomfortable even, but I laughed and laughed.

Oh wait it's not a spoof?

It's not a spoof no, but it doesn't look like an official paramount production either. Paramount has been very open to fan made stuff, this looks to be a talent-made production, as Tim Russ (Tuvok from Voyager) is direction. Still, it looks way too low quality to be ST XI

Edit: Closer look at it and at the other posts here prove that I need to read more carefully...

Star Trek should have been allowed to die a quiet death after the original series and the second movie.

The first movie shouldn't have happened. Next Gen should have been seasons 3,4,5 and 6.
That's my vote.

It's a fan production with the best values they can afford to put into it. As such, (and considering people like D. C. Fontana are involved too), it's pretty darn good. I understand George Takei has signed on to play a non-Sulu role too.

I actually remember the ORIGNIAL run of the original series. Groundbreaking doesn't begin to express it. Given the technology of the time, and the limitations of TV then, I think they did a fantastic job. And the stories (for the most part) still stand up today. Go watch City on the Edge of Forever and tell me what other teleplay should have won the Hugo instead...

They say there is supposed to be some suprise guests... So im wondering who else will partake in this film... Maybe a return of Shatner and nimoy.. One can only hope. Ive watched all the episodes of Star Trek New Voyages, a fan made production and its rather good.. James Cawley does an accurate portrayal of captain kirk as does Jeffrey Quinn as Mr. Spock. The sets are good looking and the story line well. Especially the Episode Entitled Come What May which deals with The doomsday machine and the Gaurdian of Forever on Planet Gateway. Another fan series which ive begun to get into is Star Trek Hidden Frontier which deals with alot of stuff we dont see in star trek.. Homosexual characters that have to deal with same sex relationships. All around its a good fan production. I for one cant wait for Star Trek Of Gods and Men and cant wait for the release of the New voyages episode "To Serve All My Days" Written by DC Fontana. This cures my thirst for star trek. at least until the next movie comes out. Thats my rant... Sorry guys.. Girl Trekkie here and proud of it

I've watched New Voyages as well and I am impressed with the quality of the sets and adherence to the Trek universe.

But it seems to me that a lot of this fan-fiction relies too heavily on stunts and nostalgia, while losing the very "spark"-- the very essence-- of Star Trek, which includes a strong moral sense, the vision of a bright future for humanity and the exploration of "the human condition", as Gene Roddenberry used to put it.

Without these, you can put as many klingons and gorns and vulcans and constitution-class ships on the screen and it still wouldn't be Star Trek. A lot of fan fiction also seems to lack original story-telling, relying instead on reusing old plot-lines and story elements to mold "new" stories.

Mind you, I think Paramount and the "keepers of the flame" have forgotten what Star Trek is about too, or more likely, just don't care anymore as long as they can still squeeze some money out of it. For the record, I don't consider the last movie (Nemesis) Star Trek at all-- even with a big budget, all the original actors and Paramount's blessings. Neither do I recognize Enterprise as Star Trek either. The spark wasn't there anymore.

You should try reversing the polarity of the tachyon field that provides containment to the archives. That, or slather decontamination goo all over Jolene Blalock. That might work, too.
