With its crappy kid-ized mangling of fairy-tales and literature turned into cartoon crap that's bad enough but then to dump ABC's slut-bordello of "Desperate Housewives" shoved in-your-face ad naseum. Of all the studios, Apple has to pick (like the Mets) the worst team in the league. From a pool of Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Apple marries the most disgusting and annoying studio of the lot! Why? And yes, I am aware that Steve Jobs has shares/ownership in Pixar but, that's no excuse.

Because no other studio would agree to Apple's pricing structure. (These studio heads need a reality check.) They look at iTunes with music, and see Apple's dominance in the market and its concurrent leverage over the music labels over pricing. They don't want that to happen to their movies.

Thanks. Yeah, it's rather unfortunate studios are blind to the hint because it comes from Apple and not Micro$$loth but, your analysis makes lots of sense. I got it now.

Well see though. Apple started their TV shows downloads with just ABC and Disney Channel (of course, both owned by Disney), and soon after other networks jumped on board.

Steve started Pixar when he bought George Lucas' design studio. When disney bought Pixar, steve was put on the Board of Directors. Could have something to do it, since the CEO of Apple is also on the Board of Directors at Disney.

Disney offers the broadest appeal to consumers overall. Spanning Disney Animated to Touchstone, they cover all the bases. They offer content for everybody. So to get a wide range of product, Disney is a logical choice

That's part of it I think anyway.

Even prior to that, Pixar had a relationship with Disney (and by relation, Jobs had a relationship with Disney).

Steve receiving a Disney board position was just one of the perks. More importantly, Steve jobs is currently Disney's largest individual shareholder.

See, Disney acquired Pixar in an all stock transaction. And under the terms of the deal, 2.3 Disney shares were issued for each Pixar share. This meant Steve got something like 138 million shares in Disney, or 6.3% of the company's outstanding stock. Doesn't sound like a lot, but that's a big chunk of the company he owns in light of how diversified shareholders are in large corporations.

Steve Jobs aside, I don't think it's too bad an idea. Disney has fallen on rough times lately but they are still an iconic company with plenty of valuable properties. That said, Steve being cozy with Disney probably helped get Apple a better deal than they could have with other studios.

Sorry to burst your bubble but, I make perfect sense. In light of what other studios have contribited to Film and TV and especially that (for example) Paramount gave us the Star Trek franchise and MGM/UA as well as Warner Brother gave us films like "Casablanca" and "Wizard Of Oz", Disney is the weaklest link in the cimematic chain.

I think you're ignoring the popularity of Disney. The movies on the iTMS are some of the most popular movies out there....Pirates, Incredibles, Nat'l Treasure, lots of them. Just because you don't like them, or think that they are of lesser greatness, doesn't mean that they aren't popular or won't be profitable for Apple.

Disney also owns Miramax, which is their "adult" studio. Umm. Many Tarrantino films (inc pulp fiction) are on Miramax - notice that the M in Miramax is the same font that Disney uses for Mickey Mouse? That's no coincedence

Just take a look at their lineup : wikipedia link

Disney also owns Beuna Vista - they make tonnes of stuff.

There is no end-all and be-all of studios. Check your history and facts because Disney is certainly one of THE major producers of media content that is consumed worldwide.

I'm just surprised that any movie studio is in bed with Apple. If it wasn't for the whole Steve/ Disney/ Pixar business I don't think Apple would have the movie store at all. Lets hope other jump on board.

I hope other studios chip so that this Disney crap isn't the only option. Besides, Disney isn't exactly the Gold Standard of movie factories. Just so there is MORE to the store than Disney's Cartoon-plagiarism and Quentin's Hippie Culture/60's Marijuana/Hashish-induced filmaking, I'd like to see the iTMS offer other options from Paramount, MGM/UA, WB, etc. That way, we have a way of supporting Apple instead of opting-out due to just a real crappy selection.

Because Jobs is out of his mind. It should not always be about money and power. The reasons Jobs founded Apple and bought Pixar was to bring a certain sense of beauty and esthetic to the computer world and to the animation world. But, now he is getting old and tired and of course he sold Pixar to the devil. Disney has no sense of what is beautiful or special, it is a house of making money this is it.

I would skewer you for that comment, but I'll take it easy, because obviously you've been in a coma for the past ten years and have just realized that it's not 1996.

Here, let me help you out some:

- That PowerMac 7500 you have lying around the house is no longer state-of-the-art. In fact, believe it or not, Apple is now selling computers with Intel chips inside them!

- Nobody listens to Hootie and the Blowfish anymore. Unfortunately, Celine Dion is still around.

- The New York Mets are the best team in the National League (which, unfortunately, doesn't say much this year), have the best record in baseball, and are only a few days away from clinching the NL East.

Good luck with your recovery, and enjoy the playoffs!
