Ive been having a really bad time with the Apple retailers in Karachi, Pakistan. Though most of them are very polite, they have some staff that is rude.

My macbook had been having a discoloration problem. First they asked me to show the article on apple's page. I showed it to them. They said they will contact apple and will wait for an email. 2 weeks. No email.

2 Days later, I was having problems with my OSX installation. I have misplaced my installation DVD's and they kindly agreed to copy new disks or perform a reinstall for $20. I bought the new DVDs. Later they called that normal DVDs did not have enough space and they asked for Dual layered ones which I bought for $20 (2)

The next day, I was having problems with my macbook with everything hanging. I took it to them and they asked me to leave it for a coupe of days. I had installed 3rd party RAM and asked them to chck whether the RAM was the problem. They had called later that day and and said it was not the RAM. The asked me if the data on the computer could be deleted. I accepted. 2 days later I called them again and they said it was ready for collection and they had charged me a fee of $20. Naturally, I was angry. When I went there, I asked for my Dual layered DVDs. They said the installation had had failed and I could take my DVDs back (WTF? waste of $20!). I said I will not pay them $20 for the DVDs. They said I had to pay them for replacing the RAM. They said they were being kind to me for not cancelling my warranty. They said in the US or Europe, a warranty would be cancelled straight away for installing third party RAM. (Their employee had even said that user installed RAM does not void warranty but he was not present on the day). I asked them to show me an article which said the same. I aked him that if it does not exist, would you not charge me $20 for "changing the RAM" which he would not have charged had I bought the computer from him. . He agreed on the condition that he would void my warranty if such an article existed. He also asked me if I wanted to buy 512MB Ram from apple for which he was asking $250

He said he had no internet at the place at the time even though I could clearly see that he did. I asked him to check online. While I could not find any article, he made a printout from this page.

http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Im...-post1997.html

which states

This warranty does not apply: (a) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, misapplication, or non-Apple products; (b) to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not an Apple Authorized Service Provider; (c) to a product or a part that has been modified without the written permission of Apple; or (d) if any Apple serial number has been removed or defaced
The hadrware was not damanged in anyway. He told me but the software was and my warranty was VOID. Ironically, the print out says "Apple one(1) Year limited warrany U.S, Canada, Latin America an the Caribbean. I never bouthg my mac from any of those places and they themseles refuse to asked anyone buy apple asia for discoloration.

I took it home and saw that all he had done was reinstall mac osx with the applications all installed. However the accounts were deleted. I was happy that its still working. I but some A data RAM and its working fine for now. However, he said if there was any other problem, he would charge a $20 fee everytime.

Whats the point of warranty then? He had said when I bought my ipod from him that he would honour my warranty bought from anywhere else.

So a total of $40+ was wasted on DVDs (Even though they should have known from before) and their service fee which they charged under warranty.

Is there any email for apple so that I may contact them and complain about their apparent refusal to replace my discoloured macbook and their rude service by threatening to VOID my warranty?

Is this guy even an Apple Authorized Dealer? If yes report to Apple Asia. That's a really shi*ty service. Its more like they're doing what they feel like. You cant just make "copies" of OSX. Im sure none of that money is accounted for.

Anyway, try calling your Apple's toll-free in your country and make sure you speak to someone at a level who can take action and revoke the dealers license. Make sure you mention the threats. If that doesnt work, call Apple US and have them forward your complain. They're always very helpful with reasonable complaints.

Thats pretty much all you can do. Next time make sure you buy from a more legit place.

That company claims to be an Apple authorized seller with certified tech support.

Call +1.408.996.1010 - thats Apple's number in Cupertino. Have them forward you to Customer Relations and tell them what happened and be polite and ask them what best they can do to help your situation.
