I'm looking for a DVD player + VCR combo, but I'd like to get a "region 0" or region-free player. There's just no excuse for locking out consumers from playing legit, legally-obtained DVDs. I understand some/all DVD players can be modified to be "Region 0".
But, are there some combos out there that are already region-free in the marketplace? Something I could just go out and buy at the local store?

Sad, but true.
Supply and demand - no one would buy a DVD player here unless it was region free.

Actually, I think there should be laws against selling these artificially-crippled, region-limited players. It's unethical and goes against the whole free market idea. But, anyway...
I understand that some players will accept a "code" of some form to "unlock" all-region playback? Anyone have any experience with this? Perhaps I could go that route if they're that difficult to find in local stores.

maybe he has tapes Nicko? ya know video tapes, those old black platic boxes with movies in them? as far as I know, tapes can be played in any kind of tape player (minus those damn euro tapes ) so a region free dvd player with a tape player would be a great assist to someones viewing pleasure

Yes, but not region free ones. Radio Shack has gotten steadily worse over the past decade.
Hong Kong or somewhere else in Asia, excluding Japan, would be your best bet to get one that was region free off the shelf. Many players, though, can be made region free very easily, often by just a few presses of the remote. Look around for one like that, and you should have no trouble.
