Aperture 1.5 = Aperture 1.5 has a new library system with better support for external storage, DVD's, as well as RAID. This should make a lot of Aperture users happy.

better be more ...

iLife integration is also new, with support for a plugins framework. Plugins for Gettyimages, iStockPhoto, Flickr are included with more on the way. The magnifying function has been improved and one can now magnifiy images up to 1600%. The XMP format is now supported for exporting image data.

Macbooks and Mac minis seem to be officially supported now. Or is this old news ?

From apple.com:

Run Aperture on any Intel-based Mac. Any desktop, including Mac mini, iMac, and Mac Pro. Or any notebook, including MacBook and MacBook Pro.

They ran Aperture, but they weren't supported. Now they are officially supported.

Also of note is the fact that the 5200 Ultra is now supported. ie. Some first gen G5 iMacs are now supported.

Just a side note, on the page where Apple touts the app as being able to run on any Intel Based Mac, they include this picture:

Notice how the reflections of the notebooks show the main finder screen whereas the actual monitors show Aperture running...

I have too much free time...

Yep yep I know they ran it. Wasn't completely sure if it was supported by Apple or not.

I can't wait to get my hands on this update. It seems that they tweeked it a lot seeing that it now runs on lower spec machines (well I HOPE they tweeked it and made it faster).

I have my doubts. All they did was iron out some (but not all) inconsistencies in the system requirements. It never did make sense that it was "supported" on a 1.25GHz PowerBook that damned near collapses under Aperture's weight, while a new MacBook with four times the CPU performance (and very similar GPU performance) was not supported.

The Radeon 9600 blows GMA 950 out of the water in terms of raw GPU performance.

It's the "four times the CPU performance" that is the important point here (as you suggested in the other thread).

The GPU performance of the ATi 9600 puts the GMA950 to shame. *Four* times over.

I can't stand Lightroom's cheesy, childish interface. I'll try the new beta, though, if they'll fix the DMG so it will mount (I get no mountable file system for both DMGs).

Got the full DMG to mount, and installed. Still don't like the interface (it's all too big for my testes). I'll tell you what, though: Apple REALLY NEEDS to implement the White Balance preview feature Lightroom has into Aperture. LR's WB picker is TEH HAWT.

If that is a 23" monitor on the left of the Mac Pro... if it is the 30", then that Mac mini isn't running anything in that photo.

Assuming this is the new 23" iMac, then that is the 30" cinema display => that Mac mini is a doorstop.
