Okay as many of you know I work for the FD here...well use too...I'm a reserve now...
but that's beside the fact...I want you guys to keep us in your thoughts and prayers, 10% of the dept has tested positive for TB...which isn't good...
But on to the rest of the post.
We had a call to check on a woman's daughter who was 11 yrs old. She was feeling pains down there. We later found out the woman told the cops she had taken her daughter to a crack house and left her for the drug dealer. She said she did not know what had happened during the weekend except for what her daughter had told her. The daughter told her mother that she did "favors" for the man all weekend.
IN EXCHANGE FOR HER DAUGHTER, THE WOMAN RECIEVED $15 OF CRACK!!!!!
The woman is now in court waiting to be sentenced in a child abuse and neglect case. The child is in foster care,,,
HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT....Okay just a rant and it annoys me? Fathers/Mothers why do you neglect your kids like that? I mean I don't understand this just as much as I don't understand why some fathers take no interest in their children's lives until it is way too late... Spend time with your kids for crying out loud, love them! don't wait until it's too late and your not in their life and they don't want a part of you in their life...
sorry for the rant but I know you guys are bros and sisters here and I just don't understand alot.

Sad to hear. It is absolutely baffling how anyone could do something like that.

I feel your pain. I used to be a rape crisis counsellor. I had to quit, not because I quit caring, but because I cared too much. I couldn't handle NOT being able to fix things for the women I counseled.
On the subject of TB, has your department had their respirator equipment checked out? If you share ANY of it, that's a really serious potential source for infection.

I helped a guy recently who had been off cocaine for 7 years and went through a single set-back.
He ended up selling his work truck for $50 of cocaine. He has no idea why. Luckily we got it back from the drug dealer.
He has a 10 year old son that went 4 days without his dad for it.

Ouch! That was a tough one for your friend, Railroader. A 10 year old is in a particularly vulnerable position too. Thanks for helping him out.

I had to spend about about 8 hours in the south end of Detroit. When the guys we were dealing with didn't want to work with us at all said "If you ain't happy, just call the cops". We decided to call the "cops". The first thing the 911 operator said to us was "you need to leave that area immediately, it's a heavy narcotics area" before he even heard why we were calling.
In the end the dealers returned the truck with a full tank of gas and near detailed condition. They just wanted the stolen vehicle report rescinded.
I said "work truck" in my first post, but to be clear it is a '05 extended cab 4x4 1/2 ton truck. Probably worth $20k.
Luckily the ten year old walked to him grand parents house after a while.
He's a single dad with full custody of his boy and trying to keep his life focused. He recently started attending our Church and his life has visibly improved.
